Actually, there was a study that compared dairy products with calcium supplements. Not only was the calcium absorbed better from the dairy products, the weight loss benefits were more substatial in the dairy product group.
Of course, the study was funded by the dairy council, so who knows. It was double blind, however, which is a good sign.

diet soda is so bad for you. asparteme is a form of formeldehyde (sp?) and if you dont know what that is, its what they preserve animals and other things in for science experiments, think of your organs being preserved from the inside out, creepy. Also, asparteme keeps you from burning fat. Its been proven. If you are going to drink a diet soda, make sure you drink 2 times more water. hope it helped Jennifer

no i was not referring to that, these are things i have read in various fitness magazines such as shape and many others. I'd love to see some links to those articles, or even references to what issue the articles were in. Too many times "journalists" write articles based on misinformation. I will submit this quote from the American Council of Science and Health: "In fact, aspartame, known as "NutraSweet" and "Equal," is safe. Aspartame is one of the most thoroughly tested substances in the U.S. food supply. Numerous authorities, including the Food and Drug Administration, the Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives of the FAO/WHO, the European Community, and the American Medical Association have concluded that aspartame is a safe product, except in the rare cases of phenylketonuria. For more information on aspartame, please refer to ACSH's peer-reviewed booklet Low Calorie Sweeteners." Now I'm not advocating that everyone load up on Nutrasweet-laden products. As orangina puts it, it's fake food, which puts it in the category of Twinkies in my book. There are a lot of better things to drink, especially water. I'm just not a big fan of sensationalist claims.

propel water is pretty good. If I am looking for flavored water, i drink that. It's just enough of a flavor to make it good. Usually I stick with water though.

there's really a store called piggly wiggly?? ;D My drink of choice is to put a little crystal light in my water...I feel like I'm tricking my little brain into thinking it's pop. (Although the Dr.Pepper headaches when I quit were KILLER) This has been very important to me as I've lost SIX POUNDS just by switching to crystal light from tons of Dr.Pepper and lots of alcohol. I suppose you love sugar and caffeine in your drinks. Have you tried the Minute Maid Light Lemonade? It doesn't taste like a diet soda, and actually, my husband will drink it and he HATES diet sodas. It took a lot for me to like drinking water. Putting a lemon slice in it helps or try the calorie free seltzer waters. Does caffeinated water still exist like Water Joe? Supposedly Coke is coming out with a new version of Diet Coke (in addition to the old version) that is sweetened with Splenda. I am kind of excited to try it.

That Buzzwater ad is hilarious. It says you can add the water to Ramen. Eating lots of Ramen is one of the reasons I got fat. It's one of my favorite things to eat though, especially with butter.

Ok... what the heck is ramen? From what I can guess its some sort of bread or something. Maybe we don't have it here in Canada, but I have no idea what this stuff is and I've seen you guys talking about it from time to time.

Ramen (in this sense) is a dried noodle product that is very cheap - you soak them in boiling water until they are soft and then eat . . . it's kind of like a noodle soup (like Cup O Noodles but in a bag). I've gotten them @ 10 for $1.00. They offer basically no nutritional value and are very salty, but because they are so cheap, they are popular with college students. My boyfriend eats them all the time because it's easy to make. You probably know exactly what they are, but they have a different name in Canada. kitchen.bianca.com/shack/kitchen/ramen/about.htmlOriginally, it is a Japanese dish that is quite yummy. The packaged American version is (in my opinion) a waste of space in the grocery aisles. Therefore, if you go to a good Japanese resturant (and like noodles in soup), I would give them a try. If you happen to cross the border to America and you see them in the grocery stores here, avoid them like the plague. To keep this post from being totally off topic, I like to drink diet sodas and juices, but if I'm being particularly health conscious, I'll get lemon juice or lime juice from the grocery store and squeeze a drop or two into my water. This also works with the actual fruit: lemon wedges, lime wedges, or orange wedges. I used to work in a bar, so I would fill up a glass of water from the bar gun and squeeze a single orange slice over my glass. Yum! Also, I find water easier to drink when it's ice cold. Lukewarm water doesn't do it for me. UJKitten

so anyway, just scratch the crystal light idea. Since I started drinking it I was getting headaches from the very pits of hell. Took me until now to figure out that it was the nutrasweet in that drink or something

I like Propel, have no idea if it's any better for you than gatorade or poweraide, but I like it. I do still go through about a good few bottles of water a day.
