OK. For the past month I have been eating granola bars for my breakfast, since they only have about 170 calories plus can be nutritionally beneficial. Earlier this week I made the decision to cut back even more on the breakfast calories so I went to the grocery store to compare diet bars. I can't believe my eyes when I saw that the Slim Fast bars had MORE calories and carbs than a natural granola bar, so I definitely didn't go that route. I compared quite a few diet bars and I am stunned that many of them can even be allowed to be called a diet food. Right at the very end I found a bar called Pria that seems reasonable. It only has 110 calories and is very light on the carbs. So, just in case you guys are interested, the Chocolate Peanut Crunch Pria bar is tasty. This morning I had the Strawberry Shortcake flavor. There are other flavors waiting for me at home! They also have Pria Carb Selects but I'm not on a low-carb diet. Those of you who are might enjoy them. Here is a link to the Pria bars: www.powerbar.com/Products/Pria/Flavors/main.asp?pt=pPeace, Stacey

Just wondering because you tend to need the morning ones more and the evening ones, innless you work in the evening or have opposite hours. It is better for you body to have the calories/fuel for the whole day and cut them out later on towards the evening while you will be sleeping. Just a thought. I may just try one of them as long as you promise they don't take like cardboard! Those suck!

Those bars tend to have sugar and are just fortified with "artificial" vitamins (which aren't as good as vitamins that naturally occur in foods.) I also find I'm still hungry when eating one of those! I agree with eating more food in the morning, I always feel better when I do.
I do however occasionally like the balance bars for a quick snack on the go. They have a good balance of protein/carbs/fat (thus the name). I usually eat half a bar as a snack. All their carbs do pretty much come from sugar though, so I don't eat them too much.

you're right, you need to eat the biggest amount of cal. in the morning because #1. you move around for the rest of the day to burn it off #2. you need it for energy to function through the day

I like a lot of the low carb breads and stuff. Really high in fiber, and they are finally dropping in price somewhat. I've just been trying to eat most of my carb intake in the first half of my day and eat a little lighter at night.

I've noticed that myself, plus the taste, some are so loaded with sugar, you can't even eat them cause they're so sweet. I've tried the aspen ceral bars, only 120 cal, and taste good to boot.

reading more and more about how we process food in our bodies has totally turned me off of the bars... i used to eat the bars...and feel either tired or still hungry...sometimes both... and i found out it is because of the way we process sugar...some people can process carbs fairly well... and all those additives... and i personally can not =/ kinda bums me out because i have to make a lot of what i eat....and that means like no more pizza and shit..*sigh*...but... in the long run... i will be healthier and happier... and hey.. i am learning how to make my own whole wheat pizza

I can't eat bars... They make me feel funny... And about the carbs... I swear to gawd.. I will pass a bakery and look at a pastry and automatically gain weight.. Ugh!!!

F. and M. - did you cut out bread as a personal diet or is it part of the south cal diet you are currently doing?
