Hi everyone!
I'm a 25 year old female who used to weigh in at 145lbs at 5'8.5" tall. That was nice and thin! I was thin through high school and most of college. Then, the final semester of my senior year in college I started to gain weight. It was slowly at first, but then when I got the notorious desk job, the pounds crept up quicker than I had realized. First I weighed in at 150, then 161, next it was a depressing 173, 182, and now for the past four months I've been stuck on around 200lbs up to 202lbs. I never thought I'd reach 200lbs. That's the real shocker for me, to have reached what I never thought I would. Now I feel I need to do something about it. I have been cutting meals and no longer drink sodas or drinks with calories. I'm down to drinking only the Crystal Lite mix which has five calories a serving. At this very moment I'm at a weight of 198.9. While in college I was on the homecoming court at the basketball game!! Before that I was into amateur modeling and fashion shows. That picture of me you see that is my avatar? That was me when I was thin! I'm not so thin, anymore. When my weight reached a point that I thought was ugly, I gave up my contacts and now wear glasses. I bet no one would recognize me from my high school and college days. (Well, college wasn't that long ago, but I doubt they'd recognize me.)
To make a long story short, I ran into this page shortly after buying a DDR Max 2 dance pad off eBay. I was wanting to see the weight loss benefits of the game and found Get Up & Move using Google for my search. This page has me totally pumped to lose weight. My best friend has two of the pads and Friday night I was at her house competing. Even though I was tired I kept going and we did it for one straight hour! I was sweating buckets and felt more energized than I had been in a long time. I'm addicted to video games so I see this as something I can become obsessed with. I'm not just thinking I'll lose weight doing DDR, I KNOW I'll lose weight!! So, in a few months, prepare yourselves to see me at a weight I used to be when I was slim, trim, and gorgeous! I'm motivated! TOTALLY PUMPED! I bet I'll even go for contacts again and go back to being fashion-conscious and will actually wear make-up like I used to.
Thanks for allowing me to indroduce myself!

Hi Mike!
;D That "read 4 times" is something the board put on there to count how many times my posting had been read so far. I didn't put it on there. *giggles* At first I didn't know what you were talking about and I was like, "huh?" LOL Then I saw it. I guess it's just something this board puts on there for statistics.
Anyway, sorry about not putting my name on my intro! I suppose I forgot the most important part. My name is Stacey. It's very nice to meet you!
Oh, I'm sitting here munching on one of Subway's low-carb wraps, the chicken, bacon, and ranch wrap is yummy-licious! Totally recommended!

Thanks to everyone for the very warm welcoming! I am very glad to have shipwrecked on this island. It's nice to know that there are others out there who are going through the same thing as me and who also think that DDR makes a great exercise method. I've been stuck in a rut trying to get motivated to do something as boring as exercise, and giving up the foods I love has proven nearly impossible. The only alternative left to me is to do something I enjoy, and that is DDR! I'm heavily addicted to video games anyway, so this is the most ingenious idea I've ever heard of - a dancing video game! I'm not a pen and paper calorie counter, but I'll hop on here from time to time and let everyone know if and how much weight I'm dropping. My dance pad should be here by tomorrow! And this Thursday I'll be doing the versus mode with my best friend. I think that having a friend to "compete" with keeps the game interesting, too. Well, good luck to everyone and thanks again for welcoming me aboard!

Hi Stacey, I've tried all the diets, bought four different pieces of excercise equipment over the years, joined and quit innumerable gyms, classes and videos, so I guess you could say I'm 'experienced'. I also love games, altho' I'm a computer game junkie, not platform. Anyways, DDR is wonderful for me 'cause it is fun, and just like other games you get better little by little with lots of practice. I really think it's the gaming mentality that keeps me doing it, and the fitness is just a bonus.

Yeah, I think that were I in complete "exercise" mode I wouldn't be as interested in it. But since it's a game I'm excited about it.
I also just wanted to share the news that my new dance pad just arrived by UPS at my house! I'm sooooo excited!

It's definitely a cheapo! I didn't quite know which one to buy so I found the cheapest one on eBay and bought it. I think they used the wrong picture when selling it but I refuse to leave bad feedback because it doesn't say anything about the picture being the same pad. Anyway, here is the picture of what it sort of looks like, although I think this one has a non-slip surface on the back (judging by the green outline which mine doesn't have) of it and mine doesn't and already slides all over the floor and gets bunched up. I think I might get into it heavily so I'm going to try to find a cheaper Ignition dance pad. I can't afford the $99.00 for one, but I have seen them going for less on eBay plus you get two of them. Has anyone bought the Ignition pads on eBay and are they really the exact same thing? I'm new to this so don't really know what to do about getting a reliable dance pad. I'm not a pro at this and just want to use it really as an exercise tool. I don't see myself going to the arcade to compete or anything. My best friend's pad looks like mine but hers has a nice glossy cover on it. Mine is just cheap cloth or something. This link will show you what mine looks line, minus the green outline which I think is the non-slip surface mine should have had but the seller must have used the wrong picture on eBay: images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/30058151/Images/dance1.jpg

Here's a quick and easy way to make a cheapo DDR pad into a fairly decent one.
Get a 4x4 piece of thin plywood or any board you can find (not particle board) that will fit under the pad nicely.
Get some thin wire, not quite the stuff you use in a house. Using tape, outline the shape of the arrows on the bottom of the mat. Then get somelight foam, maybe 1/2-3/4" and cut squares to fit just inside the wire. This combination will make it a lot easier to feel the arrows out while playing for long stretches and the foam makes things a little easier on your feet.
Now for the wood. Place the pad down on the wood and with the help of a friend, pull it tightly across the board and fix it in place around all the edges with strong packing tape. Now you'll have a pad that won't bunch up no matter how hard you play on it and the added weight of the board will make it less likely to slide around on carpet (For hardwood, get small cork circles, the type you put under chair legs, those will stop it from moving at all).
Now this part is optional and one I haven't done yet. Some people get a roll of plastic hardwood floor covering and tape it over the pad and around to the wood. This makes the pad a little easier to move on and helps the accurasy because it spreads the weight better over each arrow.
Thats about it. Overall, it makes the pad feel a lot better and will definately prolong the life of the pad.
Hope it helps!

Yeah, buy a cheap pad and plan on modding the thing, just don't let anyone come over to your house, they will be like... WHAT??? that looks like crap!

Howdy pals!
OK, first I want to thank everyone again for all the helpful information you've given me. quadrollersk8r, Amps, cpurola, Maria, Cowman715, ctgarcia, FaerieLink3, thanks so much for welcoming me onboard and for all the helpful information. I'm especially glad you're all here for the support when it comes to the weight loss attributes of DDR and for being here for everyone who needs you! I'm sure I'll be here time and time again seeking support and answers!
I also just want to say that I'm now down to 197.7 as of 8:30am Monday morning. That might not seem like a lot compared to last Monday's 198.8 but anything at this point is good, and I haven't been doing DDR as heavily as most people as I'm still new to it and am just doing the beginner level. I've done it four nights in the past week, probably about an hour each time. Just to see it go down a little without changing my diet that much is very motivational to me! I'm going to keep it up!
Thanks!

I found that thing that tracks your daily calories... It's from sharper image.. they have one that logs how many miles and steps you've walked... But I already have that one.. I want to get my hands on the calorie counter one... That'll be sweet... It actually tells you how many calories you've gained and lost since the day started... Now I can breathe..

Hey, welcome... I bought two of those pads on eBay about 2 months ago... My sister danced on one of them like twice and it totally stopped working... the other one still works but barely.... it doesn't register half of my steps, and then it registers half of them that I don't even actually step on... so I just splurged and bought a metal platform off eBay for $125 and now I'm waiting for it to get here...
