Here I want everyone to go try something. Go pick a song you do good at it. Dance it and record the score. Now try dancing it with your hands in your pockets if you havent already noticed, you use your hands alot when dancing to keep your balance. What I have began to do is use small 5Lb Weights or 5lb dumbells (DONT let them fly out of your hands!) while i dance. Now after a bunch of songs i feel as if my arms are getting toned a bit. I can only belive that this could help with the amount of calories burned ;D

This works VERY well. Just be careful and make sure that you have a wide enough space to play in so you won't knock holes in the walls. ;D

OMG .. lol someone else does that? haha i've done that before also.. 5-15 lbs works for me. start with 5 then every 2 rounds build up to 15. Ive found any more than that can get hard to move your arms around for balance lol. Oh.. and.. i only let them fly out once... during paranoia >,<. I guess great minds think alike?

Idea sounds great, now I at last have some reasonable thing to do with those small hand weights ;D, just shame I don't have any heavier than 3 lbs. Oh well, 3 lbs is more than nothing

Hey guys,
It's a few days since I've been here. I've had major chaos going on. Yet since monday of this week I've already dropped 7 pounds. WOOHOO! I went about the wrist weights and they work great.
Looking forward to lighter tomorrow! ;D ;D ;D ;D

That will also help your performance while using the bar as well.
Heh, it doesn't make a lot of difference to me, since I do enough freestyling that I have good enough balance to do whatever I want with my arms while I'm dancing...
If you use very heavy weights (10 pounds or 15 pounds) playing with them will not only help tone your triceps, but also teach you to play with minimal upper body motion (since that takes more energy). It will improve your efficiency up on the pad, and make you that much closer to passing songs in the max series.

A word of warning: current theory seems to be *very* much against using weights during aerobic exercise.
I've been using 1-lb hand weights while I play DDR for about a year, now, so I wasn't very receptive to the idea of them being disadvantageous. However, I've read more than a few articles online detailing the detrimental effects of ankle weights and, to a lesser extent, hand/wrist weights used during aerobic exercise (apparently the extra weight isn't the issue so much as the altered effect upon your usual gait and/or other biomechanical functions). I still wasn't convinced until just recently, when I started noticing joint pain when I carried my weights while I played DDR.
Not saying that weights absolutely can't be beneficial... just that you might want to think twice and/or do some research before adding them to your DDR workout. :}

I was just wondering about this today... my lower body is getting so strong, that my arms feeling weak and spindly in comparison. Do they make a weightlifting game? ;-)

This sounds like a good idea! I'll give it a try because I lack in upper-body strength and am unable to do push-ups! XD
I have my youth, so I'm not worried about any joint pains. D:
