Hey all!
I"m posting this in this forum because this has been a goal of mine for a long time . . . I've been meaning for a very long time to take up a cause and do something to support it. My chosen cause, Autism Speaks! and the National Alliance for Autism Research's project called the Autism Walk, is directly related to my every day life (I'm currently a 1:1 aide for children with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders and will be going to school for speech/language pathology soon) and when I was approached by a coworker about walking this Sunday, I readily accepted. Also, this walk is a 2 mile walk which will fit in perfectly with my plans for getting more active and losing weight. (I'm killing two birds with one stone, so to speak.) I'm pretty proud of myself for getting active with this; I'm always talking about how more needs to be done for the kids that I work with but rarely do I ever get up and do something about it. Now I have that chance . . . which leads up to why I'm posting this on here:
If you are interested in sponsoring me, I would greatly appreciate it. I recently read that 1 in 166 children will be diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in their lifetime, which is an astounding number for a disorder that has only been labeled and officially "around" since the 1950's. Great strides are being made in autism research but so much of autism is still a mystery to the parents, professionals, and children who live with the disorder every day. Even a tiny donation of a dollar or two would be appreciated . . . every little bit helps! Thanks!
