Well I don't know if I have discussed much of my personal life...but yeah, I am a band nerd. I have been playing Trombone for 7 years, and just recently decided to go to a music school and major in performance. One day I want to become a principle trombonist in a major orchestra... ;D

That's wonderful! Are you 1st chair? I was a band nerd, too. I played clarinet from 5th grade through graduate school. I haven't played in about 8 or 9 years now. I usually played 2nd part. Keep practicing!

Yeah I am the lead trombone at my school, have been for the past 3 years. This past year I was first chair in region 24, and had a bad audition at area (5th chair) and they took the top 4 to state. I knew for a fact I am a better player than all 4 that "beat" me. But enough of that.

Yeah, one bad audition can do that. I used to HATE auditioning, which is why I usually ended up playing 2nd part. But I actually liked 2nd part better than 1st, so it worked out ok for me.
Are you in high school or college? If high school, where are you planning to go to college?

I am a senior in HS. The colleges I am looking into are University of Houston, A&M Commerce, Texas Tech, UNT, and I think thats it...
I have about 5-6 people really pushing for me to go to Houston, and all those people have serious connections down there so I will probably end up there.

As a former band geek, and assuming you'll be joining the marching/pep bands. You have to consider your travel opportunities with these schools. A&M you're likely to get to travel/march at a bowl game most years, but those are over Xmas, new years. Texas Tech you're likely ot get to go to at least a first round March Madness location, and maybe even a sweet sixteen site as well. College band trips will be some of the best times of your life.

I was a band nerd until the end of the 8th grade. I had changed schools, and the band teacher said "Don't apply next year. We don't like your type around here."
Musically, that was the best thing to ever happen to me.
Best of luck to you though! Hopefully you'll be able to make more out of it than I have.

I am actually thinking about Minoring in computer networking. Just think it will be a nice job to have between gigs.
