Moved to the appropriate board
If you can, find smzip files, they install properly with a double-click. Otherwise the information is all there in the readme. Everything is in the music directory/mix directory/individual song directory tree. Think of it like an outline
I. music directory A. Mix 1 1. Song 1 2. song 2 B. Mix 2 1. Song 1 2. song 2
and so on. All of the files for a particular song go in the directory for that song. That's the mp3, the sm, the bg, all of it.

That falls under the NO SIMFILE REQUESTS rule, sorry.

I know that there is a no simfile request rule but i still see people requesting simfile websites and people answering them...what is the point to a no simfile request rule anyway considering the fact that that is what most people need help with since most places require an account...it seems that more people would want to join if they could find out where to get simfiles.

I am not trying to be a pain but it seems logical that helping people out would raise the amount of members.

I've explained my stance on simfiles before, but I'll be happy to do it again. The overwhelmingly vast majority of simfiles out there are using music without the permission of the msuic owner. That constitutes copyright infringement, which in much of the world is illegal (and it's certainly illegal here in the United States). I've seen several DDR websites shut down because of this trafficking in infringing material. If this were just my personal web forums, that might be one thing, but they're not, these forums belong to RedOctane, and they are held responsible for any illegal activity that goes on here. I'm just a volunteer moderator.
Now, if someone were to make simfiles for some public domain music, or music of their own creation, where they could grant the rights to redistribute, that'd be one thing, and I've encouraged those members here who do their own music to post DDR-length versions of their songs that we could create stepcharts for. If that happens, I'd be more than happy to host those legal simfiles.
As for increasing our member count, that's not my goal. We're not out to be the end-all be-all of DDR message boards, other sites do that quite well. We're here for a specific purpose, to promote the use of dancing games as a form of exercise and weight-loss method, and I think we're doing just fine with that. I'm sorry that stepmania.com has taken down their message boards, and we try to help out with generic questions where we can, but I am not willing to accept the risks that come with linking to infringing materials.
If you'd like to see that change, write your congressman to change the US stance on copyright, but until the laws change, my stance on simfile requests remains unchanged.
