This is probably a question better asked at the Stepmaina forums. We can answer shallow Stepmania questions, but when it comes to the development of the software, we're a little out of our depth.

Stepmania never has, and most likely never will include a workout mode. You may want to look into Endless Mode if you want to destroy yourself playing a ridiculous amount of consecutive DDR rounds without pause . Ever since v3.00 there has always been "Endless" mode, where you can pick a song-group and play all the songs in it on random, as though it was a never-ending endless course. It will not track your calories, but it will track the time you played, and when you eventually fail it will give you a final score screen telling you your total arrows hit marvelous, perfect, great, good, boo, miss and OK, as well as a percentage of the course you finished. The percentage could very well be over 100% if you complete all songs in the course, because Endless mode will restart from the beginning when you finish the course. It's particularely fun on a full bumper pack, like an 8th mix bumper pack. Endless mode is available if you start a new game, and when you reach the "Select difficulty" part of the menu, hit right until you reach heavy, then hit right one more time. The standard difficulties will disappear and "Nonstop" "Endless" "Challenge" and "Magic Dance" will appear. Nonstop = 4 songs back to back, just like a DDR EXTREME Challenge = 4-6 songs on a "battery" where you can miss only 3 arrows in the entire course. Just like on DDR EXTREME Endless = what I just described. Magic Dance = two player mode (or against the computer) where you "attack" the other player with a random mod if you hit enough arrows perfectly. Your arrows are treated like a tug-of-war game between a shared bar. The winner is the one who has gained more bar on the other player by the end of the song. Quite fun
