I see the testimonials and stuff and it kinda motivates you to lose some weight...but how many hours a day should you play to actually see some results?

People play as little as 15 minutes, or as much as 3+ hours. It depends on what kind of shape you are in, how much weight you want to lose, what mode you are doing, how much you like the game, and how bad you want to lose the weight.
Personally, I play for anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours a day. I was losing weight playing for this long in Light mode, and I'm continuing to lose weight playing for this long in Standard mode. Everyone's body is different, and it's hard to say what will work for you . . . but as long as you are playing until you work up a good sweat and feel like you've done some physical work, you should see some results. I play until I'm tired, but not completely exhausted.

When I played Light mode back in the day, I could play 5-6 hours a day. As I play Heavy... it kills me to go more than 2 hours.

Kudos to your stamina. I usually play for about 30 mins a day on standard, don't have time for much more than that. Works for me though

It would depend on how much you can play before feeling like you are gonna die. I play anywhere from 30 mineuts to an hour mostly.

I scale it... start on light or standard to warm up - then when I'm warm enough I pump it up to heavy.. can last anywhere from 1/2 spurt to and exhausting 2 hrs then jump back down to light or standard,
sometimes I will do this up and down and play for literally hours....

I do a 45 minute set in Workout Mode ( Modified, speed at x2, freeze arrows off and turns on to random or right and mode on heavy)

I do workout mode on 300 cals every day, which usually takes 30 minutes, depending on how much downtime there is between songs. I've lost 40 pounds now, but I've combined that with eating more appropriately for my target weight and, recently, weight training 3 times a week. (upper body). More importantly than numbers, I've lost almost 5 inches off my waist, which is great.
So, you don't have to do that much. A little DDR every day and a little control over what you eat should help you see some results quickly. But, I'd recommend at least some resistence/weight training if you are serious. Building muscle will increase your metabolism and make your weight loss really visible.

Orb,
I think you said it best.. It doesn't matter how many hours a day you're doing it if you're not doing the other things (like changing eating habits, relieving stress that may get you eating, etc.)
I personally try to do 1 to 2 hrs x3 times a week. With a changed diet ( I hate to use the word healthy cause it creates images of just celery sticks and carrots) it has helped me lose weight.

I'm at work and was browsing the internet trying to find some locations to show off my new skillz hehe. I found this site and thought "oh how cool" didnt know there was somthing like this out here. I'm glad I found it. Check this out...This weekend I introduced DDR to one of my friends that breakdances. We played for 10 hours straight. I'm no lil guy either. I'm 6/3 210 pounds and a smoker. It was so much fun I couldn't stop. I woke up the next day...the balls of my feet where brused and my calfs felt like I was smuggling coconuts. My goal is to loose 20 pounds for spring break wish me luck and I'll keep you guys posted with my stupidness .

When I talked to my doctor, he said that when a person works out (cardio) they should get their heart rate up to at least 90% of maximum for AT LEAST 20-30min with no breaks. I have been doing a 45-60 minute work out of solid DDR, with a 1-2 minute water break every 20-30min. Usually I am just playing standard and light (light on the songs that have alot of jumps cuz shit will fall off my desk cuz the way my house is made) and heavy when I feel like it. The best way to get the work out is not playing just heavy unless you know you can handle it. I know personally that the songs I like to play on heavy will wear me out after about 10-20min of pure playing.

Are you sure you heard your doctor right, or is he just trying to drum up extra business? Even as an athlete, you shouldn't be over 85% of your maximum. The generally recommended target is 50-75% of your maximum.

I might have heard him wrong, But I know he said at least 75%, To be honest I was on some narcotics at the time I went there (some pill that had a little codine in it), so I a little messed up. Plus I was a little light headed from the nebulizer treatment.
lol, btw I have had bronchitis for a month, so...yeah hehe
