Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a while, but now I need some help. I've got DDR for my PC, and I've been shopping around for some inexpensive equipment. Please help me decide: 1) Are madcatz pads any good? 2) Most of the pads I see are for PS1/PS2, but can be used with a USB adaptor. I can get a good deal here www.levelsix.com/detail.aspx?ID=96 on some Xbox pads, and I know Xbox to USB adaptors are available, but I want to know if this setup will work. Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, nobody responded so I went ahead and ordered the (cheapo p.o.s.) pad from levelsix. I also bought an adapter from Ebay, but it wound up being the wrong kind. If you get an Xbox-to-USB adapter, make sure it's the one that has the wide connector, not the round one. I don't own an Xbox so I didn't know what the connector would look like. And wasted 8 bucks (boo hoo).
Anyway, I found another adaptor, it looks like a black box with a dangly. It should work, and I will respond again when I get it, and let you all know how well it works.

Well, I tried it out and I am NOT happy with the results. The adapter came with a driver, which seemed to work ok at first. It worked for about 20 seconds, until I tried to hit left/right. Then, the dance pad stopped working completely. The controller configuration in Windows sucked with this driver, so I went on the web searching for help. I found XBCD (I think that's what it's called) and installed it. The controller configuration was better, and the pad worked again...for another 20 seconds. Same problem, the pad locked up when I tried to hit two buttons at the same time. The controller configuration in Windows showed that the UP and RIGHT button seemed to be stuck, but the LEDs on the pad were not lit (indicating that they were NOT stuck, it was a software thing).
I rebooted (it IS Windows after all) and the dance pad worked for another 20 seconds, this time getting the UP and RIGHT buttons stuck. Levelsix and Lik_Sang didn't have any suggestions. I also tried the Select-Start-Up thing, but that didn't do anything.
So! Can someone help me with this? I have a generic Xbox dance pad and a Super Joy Box 9 Xbox-USB adapter, playing. I know it's a Windows thing, because the same problem happens in both DDR and Stepmania.
I'm beginning to wish I'd just stuck with a Playstation Pad/adapter, as people seem to be having better luck with it.

Hi Abrannan Yeah, I had originally planned on playing only DDR, so I didn't even go to the Stepmania web site. Of course, a couple of Googles after the fact for "Xbox USB adapter" pointed me right at that dang compatibility page. But that was after 2 hours of trying to get the thing to work. Maybe I can sell this cow-plop pad in the Xbox forum then use the adapter as a cat toy
