I just got DDR Ultramix for XBox for Christmas, like I asked, but I've never played before..not at someone's house, not in the arcade, not anywhere...unfortunately. Well I tried playing yesterday, for about a half hour, got too frusterated, and came back to it a little while ago for another half hour, but quit again out of frusteration. Am I the only one who cannot follow the arrows? I feel completely mindless while looking at the arrows in the screen and trying to figure out what order they were put in and where my feet should go..I CANT DO IT! How frusterating...is there a tip anyone wants to give me on how to "read the arrows" I guess? I see them...I just cannot comprehend. I want to be able to do this SO badly, but when I get BOO, BOO, BOO, BOO, BOO, BOO, BOO, BOOOOO, BOOOOOOOOOO over and over again, it takes my mind elsewhere and I give up. How sad Help!

Have you done the tutorial? It can really help newer players out.

I'm pretty sure there is no tutorial on this game. There's training mode, but no tutorial. I'm not sure a tutorial is what I'm looking for..I know WHAT I'm supposed to do, and how it works, but my eyes can't go fast enough to look at 4 different things, register what order they're in AND move my feet corrispondingly all at the same time. I need something SUPER slow...but there's not even a Beginner mode...only Light. So I think I just need to work on my coordination, cause right now, I'm lacking pretty much all of it. I just get frustrated easily when I want to do something and can't (and it seems like EVERYONE else can!! AAHH!!). A little patience is in order I think.

Find the song with the lowest foot rating on the easiest level....light mode or whatever... in um4 I believe it's the color yellow. Play that song over and over. I was a slow learner... ddr took a LOT of practice for me to catch on. I did a song with an extremely slow BPM on light mode...I believe it was a 3 footer...and I played that stupid song for 2 days.....like...continually.... it probably took me at least 6 hours of gameplay.... I then tried songs that were the next easiest and worked my way up. It took a long time.... but every conquest was so rewarding. Everyone can learn to play DDR.... falling over your feet, landing on your butt and generally feeling stupid are not abnormal traits for someone who's new to ddr.... and believe it or not, someday...if you keep playing...you'll be able to pass heavy mode.

I just get frustrated easily when I want to do something and can't (and it seems like EVERYONE else can!! AAHH!!). A little patience is in order I think. Not to worry. It does take patience and lots of practice to start - but one day you will be practicing the timing of the arrows and something will just "click" and you'll get it and you'll be on your way to more songs and higher difficulty in no time. Hang in there!

I started with UM2 and it was hard, I failed all over the place. UM2 was the very first DDR game I purchased and I loved it, that was 2 years ago and I am now on Standard/Heavy... I think UM is a hard mix to learn on from personaly experience. I got Extreme2 and I went to standard pretty quickly then on SuperNova I started to play a couple of heavy songs, so with every game I got I got a little better. ^_^ You will get it in no time...

Hi, I just started with Ultramix about 2 weeks ago. I actually started like you. I did it a couple days about half hour each day, said I didn't see how I'd learn it but the third day I was determine. Here's what I do.
Start with the easiest song with a good beat. I used After the game of love. Very good song for a beginner. Make sure you put it in light mode. It took me about 3-4 days to finally ace that song, then I moved to one that was a bit faster (Do that Thang) and so on. Also use training mode and not game mode..or exercise mode.
Hope that helps..
