Alright everyone. I got so excited about this whole DDR thing how I will be able to get a good amount of exercise and finally be in shape and maybe even lose a few pounds. I just bought the game yesterday and its coming with the standard pad. I will be in front of a big screen on carpet with this pad. Will I still be able to do what I need with this pad? I just got so excited and I don't want all to be hopeless just because I have the "standard" merchandise
Any feedback?
Thanks!

You'll be fine for starting out. Don't rush into getting all the latest "fancy" equipment until you understand what your needs are. Get a feel first for whether or not you're even going to enjoy playing the game enough to invest more into it. The standard soft mats should work fine for you through beginner and light modes, and there are inexpensive ways of shoring them up for the more difficult modes.

The standard mat is a thin soft mat, if your carpet is VERY thin it could work but not all that well, if your carpet is somewhat thicker then it won't work at all. A quick fix is to tape the pad to some cardboard.
But as a beginner you'll probably enjoy the standard pad just fine until it breaks, at that point go to a foam dance pad which will play just fine on carpet although it will slide.

You'd definitely be okay! I started out with all of the standard equipment, too, and I still have the standard soft pad. I actually had to get a replacement recently though, since I overused it, but I still used my original pad for at least, about two years. If your carpet is too soft to allow your pad to register your footsteps, you could always put the pad on top of a wooden board of some sort-I've seen people do that
