So I bought a new pad about a week ago, and I have been forced to use my old broken one to work out now.
The new one has some foam sheet in it, which makes the thing slip like nobodies business. I fell, almost broke my ankle (due to the position of the fall), and the pad ripped.
But I guess my safety is compromised for $20.
Oh, and their email complaint thing doesn't work.

Take it back and insist that they return it or exchange it cause you nearly broke your ankle and that it is a piece of crap and not worth 20 bucks. I know that if you bought it at Wal mart, they return everything, they even return the stuff they're nto supposed to, i.e. cd's, movies, video games, ect for cash or store credit. At least at the one I worked at tif the customer got pissed enough they would.

madcatz are not so bad, i mean, for softpads, obviously compared to metal pads they suc*s but they are nice in my opinion as soft pads. But yes they are kind of dangerous, i slipped on once but now i'm careful ( i still have it but going tio make my own metal pad )

my husband prefers his madcatz pad to the konami one that I use but ever time I use it I just about fall on my face before I remember to remind myself I'm using a different pad

did you get version 1 or version 2? version 2 has a nonslip rubber bottom to keep it in place, I have been using mine heavly for the passed two months or so and I havent found any problems at all, I play on standard and light settings, I dont know if it would move on heavy or oni but when I get that good at this game I will just build a hard pad anyways I just wanted to say that madcatz use to suck alot when it came to dance pads or anything for that matter but their new stuff is showing marked improvement. (I did get a madcatz soft pad without insert, and it felt like silk on the bottom, it was that smooth, I steped on it once and wound up flat on my back, nearly broke my neck on my coffie table, I took it back to EB Games and got it replaced with my version 2 foam insert madcatz soft pad.)

We have the one like the first one you described it is VERY slippery and folds over itself at just about every step but we've had it now since x-mas so I don't think we can return it. We're hoping to get someone to build us a metal pad. Has anyone modified a soft pad like the madcatz one to make it easier to use/not so slippery?

great link. Now I just hope that our madcatz pad isn't a total loss and it still works well enough to do that..

update on my previous post. my skill has improved a little bit and I am able to start doing 5-6 step songs, I am noticing a bit more movment on the pads part, its not to bad but it can mess me up while I am playing as it can cause miss steps. I will either mod it (hurray for cheap dollar store velcro strips) or I will tear it apart and build a metal pad.
in closing this pad is great for beginers and even light users, standard may have some trouble with it and I wouldnt even look at it for heavy.
hope this helps
best wishes all

MadCatz is just cheap consumer crap. Anything I've bought from them, a controller, anything, has gone to hell because of it's poor quality. They're in it for the money, not the quality. It's total crap. And most stores won't return stuff like that. So you're basically screwed. If you're a prolific DDR'-Er (?), then it would be probably be best to invest a mat a LITTLE nicer than MadCatz. Though, everyone would love a metal dance pad <3

just in regards to the return problems, EB games offers a five year in store exchange waranty on any and all madcats products.

I have never had problems with the soft pad that madcatz makes. It was super cheep and lasted longer than my foam insert ever did...If you tape them to a dead softmat (aka my expensive ignition) they work like a comfey gem.

Yeah, ironically, the pad that was broken actually works really well now.
