I could see the point Wings is making. Some friends of mine in Michigan have an "old school" hip hop outfit. They've had their music on two television shows in the last year as well. One on the WB, one on Lifetime. I'm not saying that's a phenominal success, but they have reached some level of it without being misoginyst or gangsta.
Even looking back at the first rap/hip hop groups to really make it big, the genre was and still can be more of a narrative than an exercise in being a scumbag.
Flow seems to be marketing its old school roots more than any modern pieces. I don't doubt that some material on the game falls into the trapings that rap music has made for itself in the last 15 or so years. I also tend to think of underground and old school hip hop as a much different from of music.
Having said that, I skip 95% of the hip hop songs in DDR. The ones I play can be my favorites in the entire game, but the "new style" is just not good for me. I have no plans to purchase or even rent Flow. As much as I do appreciate some forms of the genre, I just couldn't enjoy this game enough to justify spending the money.
Is there any chance that Flow would help the genre as a whole gain a little face? It takes a certain type to enjoy J-Pop and club music. In contrast, the artists in Flow tend to have a much wider fanbase.

It's a weak overall offering compared to DDR or even ITG/PIU but I think it's a nice change of pace when it comes to music selection.
I actually do research using DDR to increase physical activity/fitness in kids (7-11yo).
My kid is a pretty good judge and she gave it the thumbs down. Despite being 14 months old, she clearly likes MAX2, Extreme, and loves Extreme2. A little less love for PIU. She's lukewarm for ITG and Jungle Book. But she gives Flow a doughnut.

The game actually sounds like it has some fun twists, but if it is really all hip-hop then I'm going to pass. I'd like see DDR with more varied music, not more specialized music. There's already too much rap and hip-hop for my tastes, so this just seems painful. Oh well...

I guess my opinon about music is i like some of all. Take country or western and you have some good funny songs then you have people crying in their beer cheating on their mates etc.I also like deep purple,Led Zeplin and that kind ok so it didnt make me do drugs or become a evil demon LOL. But i also like old Burl ives songs and 50's and 60's. I am not fond of hip-hop or rap but i have a 16 yr old and a 30 yr old that like it the 30 yr old more then the 16 yr old. I have four step kids that like it and country but several of them also like gospel music. I prefer an all around person on most issures then to be stuck in one area. oh well so there is my opinion for what its worth

"Unlike Red Octane's In the Groove this game uses the same dance pad as DDR and will feel extremely familiar to any DDR veteran" What does this quote in the text mean ?..ITG uses the same dance pad as DDR.

They probably got it confused with Pump it Up, which does use a different mat.

Okay so I liek the game. I only played a couple of songs ran through the list but it is all pretty good. You have a few dancers to choose from once you unlock them all, and you have like 6 to start. There are Dj mixes and then there are the full deal with emcee's too. Over all I give the game an 8 outta 10. I still like my ultramix2 and extreme2 better. I think when all I want is hip hop Flow is my game. So yeah
