Why is it that in DDR MAX there seems to be a HUGE negative effect for getting a BOO as compared to other games. Like if I miss two steps my whole bar is drained!

Turn the difficulty level down - it's in options under I believe game options. Might be called something different in the American version.

It's called judge difficulty I think.
I've been playing really high judging lately... it makes you a lot more aware and snappy.

I thought judge difficulty was the perfect/great/good window and the overall difficulty was how much it rewards/punishes you for successful/failed steps.

It does, I was just saying that it makes you much less lazy when you get tired in pure fear of failing.

MAX is definatly freeze heavy, and with freezes if you step off or miss, it seems to count even the non-freeze steps during the freeze period as misses ,even if you hit them. Does anyone know if this is true? For instance, i'd be doing dark black forest on heavy and have a full combo and meter going halfway through the song. I'd be holding a freeze and be hitting some other arrows, and leave the freeze a sec too early and just like that my meter would be half gone .

That happens with all broken Freezes.

I don't like how you don't get any points for finishing a freeze arrow but your meter goes half way down if you let one go.

You get Dance Points for holding a freeze, and those are what determine your grade. Dropping a freeze relatively drops your Dance Points by 6 Greats.
