Hi! My names Angel, I'm relatively new to DDR but having a lot of fun working out with ultramix for Xbox my fiancé got me for Christmas. I weigh between 170-180 (note to self buy scales) and I've been using workout mode for a little over a week. I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer:
1. How accurate is the calorie counter in workout mode?
2. What type of clothes do you recommend wearing? I can't do it in jeans; I step on my pants and loose my balance, so I've been wearing shorts and a tee. Would aerobic-ware or dance-ware be better?
3. My fiancé also enjoys playing DDR but he doesn't like using the mat. How close are the metal mats to the arcade mats?
Thanks bunches! Angel

WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO START READING PREVIOUS THREADS?!
1. How accurate is the calorie counter in workout mode?
Who knows really. It's just an extreme estimate. I'd say it's somewhere 70-80% accurate. Probably says you burn more than what you really do.
2. What type of clothes do you recommend wearing? I can't do it in jeans; I step on my pants and loose my balance, so I've been wearing shorts and a tee. Would aerobic-ware or dance-ware be better?
I wear extremely loose clothing. Basketball shorts and some cheap shirt I get from Finish Line usually.
3. My fiancé also enjoys playing DDR but he doesn't like using the mat. How close are the metal mats to the arcade mats?
Similar... but the arrows on the home metal pads aren't depressed like the arcade arrows are. Other than that, they're rather similar. I have a tougher time at the arcade than with my CF.

Actually I did read many of the other posts. None had exactly what I was looking for, my main question was about the clothes and doing a search on clothes pulls up a post about shopping for clothes and noticing they fit better and a search on ware brings up a post about wearing a sweat band or some such thing.
You'd think people would be nicer to those who are just starting out and answer their questions. Keep in mind that "there's no such thing as a stupid question" and be helpful to people and maybe you wouldn't drive them away from your forums.
So thanks. Thanks for treating me like an idiot who can't do a simple search and thanks for acting like everyone should know everything you know.

I wear bike shorts and a tank top. I use the kind of slipper socks with tread on the bottom to play on my pad.
When I started out, I had major problems with my thighs rubbing together (it hurt), so I have been using bike shorts ever since. Now, my legs don't rub, but I still wear the same shorts.
Oh yeah, jogging bra. I find it a necessity. It hurts if I play some of the faster songs without good support.

I know what you mean about the sports bra definitely a must. The jogging shorts are a good tip. The same thigh thing happens to lots of us. Thankies! Angel

I think you took it the wrong way, but if you want to make drama out of it be my guest.

Down SSC, down boy... There was an entire thread dedicated to what people wear when they play. You have to modify the search to go back a bit to find it though (default search is the past 7 days, which as quiet as this board is, isn't really enough to do a good search). Here's a link: getupmove.proboards26.com/index.cgi?board=pounds&action=display&thread=1089002585Personally, I find that calorie counting to be inaccurate enough to not pay attention to as calories. I do use it as a relative comparison of how hard I've worked day to day. For example, to see if my hour long session of 5-6 footers is equivalent to one of my fast burnout sessions where I play 7-9 footers on heavy (can only do about 10 or so songs then). As far as metal mats go, they vary widely in quality and construction, so a direct comparison with the arcade platform is difficult without a specific link. But yes, generally, the metal pads are built a bit differently, as the arrows are closer to flush with the surface of the mat, whereas the arcade platforms have the arrows recessed about 1/8". The most authentic home mat would be to buy a surplus arcade platform, and re-wire it to be used with an Xbox controller. It's really not as difficult as it sounds, but it is quite pricey.

I thought there was a whole thread on me playing naked. There is, but I thought it best to not point that out.
