The right arrow on my Ignition just suddenly died on me partway through Euphoria!!!! And it was on the pad that was still completely functional!!! Now I know why people complain about soft mats. They can work really well for some amount of time (sometimes they don't even do that, my 3 month old one that still works likes to ghost step), but can abruptly stop working. So now, I aim for a new goal. To save up for a flux. It seems to be the only pad I haven't heard any problems about... Unfortunately, it looks like it'll cost $300, + $48 shipping... bleh . It might be a long road, but I think I'll go for it... I'll have my dad look at it when he gets home, but for now, I don't have too high of hopes.

ya, I am saving up for my flux as well, all my pads currently work but I know its just a matter of time before they decide to die on me so I am dodging the bullet and getting my flux before that happens (I hope) good luck to you and I hope you are able to get playing again soon.
best wishes all.

I can still play, it was just a nasty shock when the pad which WASN'T being screwy suddenly died on me, plus now I'm left with a soft pad which likes to ghost step, and a craptastic (although unused) flat mat which turns and slides around like there's no tommorow.
I think I remember a link somewhere to instructions on building your own pad... anyone know it? It might be a better choice for me, depending on the complexity of it.

Well, I went and found the link to the pad construction thing. I think we're gonna try it. Spending about $130 on materials and doing a little work is better than spending about $350... Anyway, since the pad was dead anyway, we dissected it... And to be honest, we were kinda upset that you get charged $80 for what's in there. Basically, the pad looks like it's layered like this... Top cover Foam (in the raised panels) Thin plastic sheet (sensors embedded in this layer, rips all over it) Thin plastic sheet #2 (Seems to be made out of something similar to garbage bags, had a few small holes) Thick foam insert Bottom cover Both forementioned thin plastic sheets were trashed when we looked at it. No wonder this thing can't handle much of someone stomping around on it, it rips up the inside plastic and therefore, the sensors. In short, if our analysis is correct (which it might not be), it essentially seems like a flat mat, but with a zipper and a few pieces of foam. All for $80...

Your analysis is correct (well, mostly. There should be an additional thin foam layer between the plastic sheets). Ignition style mats are merely soft mats with a zipper and the foam insert.
