I love DDR. Greatest game series to ever happen to me. But this one really makes me mad. DDR Extreme is the biggest mix yet, SO WHY ARE WE ONLY GETTING OUR U.S. STANDARD 65 SONGS?! Check out Konami's site. Advertising over 100 MINUTES of music, not songs. I checked out the boxes of the other U.S. version games. 100 minutes for over 65 songs. The Japanese home version of Extreme got over 110 songs. It's sad how much we are getting ripped off, especially since the Japanese home version of DDR Max 2 got over 70 songs. We can't even get THAT for DDR Extreme.
I don't know about anyone else, but I want songs more than I want stupid gimicky game modes. I saw a picture of the work in progress, seems like they plan on having every dancer made for the series up for selection. Okay, they're cool for a little bit, but I've lost my feelings for wanting to see them bust moves. I'm too busy trying to get better than to notice their cartoon butts.
Never the less, I'm a sucker for DDR and will end up getting it. What does everyone else think about Konami's decision for the home version of DDR Extreme for the PS2?

Well, I don't think there's a song list yet, but just check out the site. They're showing it as coming soon, but they give a little information about it. www.konami.com/ddrextreme/Click on one of the screenshots to bring up a box with the total of 8 screenshots so far. If anyone is doubting what I'm saying, then check out the site and you'll see why I'm saying what I am saying.

wow this is great!!! can anyone find a release date?? And yes I agree that its stupid that we are getting ripped off. I mean why cant they release the same as the Japanese version with US exlusive songs. Its not as if DDR fans are against japanese music .. or at least im not haha. A release date would be great though ;D

The actual release date hasn't been said yet, but it's supposed to come out sometime this fall. At least, that's about as much as I've heard.

Now does this possibly mean 65 songs...as in it starts off with 65 and then as you progress you can unlock new songs?

Nope. You only get a total of (at least) 65 songs. If you started out with 65 songs, then the total would probably be in the 80s. But 100 minutes can't fit 80 songs. Not DDR songs. If they were only really close to a minute a piece, then you could. But a song's average is around a minute and a half. 80 songs can't fit in 100 minutes. If you don't believe me, look at the back of the PS2 boxes. 65 songs, 100 minutes. We are going to yet again be gipped of songs.

Hmmm I hope it does include more... I really liked PS2's DDRMAX2 compared to all the other mixes I've tried (DDR for PC, XBox Ultramix and DDRMAX). I guess so long as its QUALITY I wont mind the QUANTITY. Much like DDRMAX2 I think had better songs, I got DDR1 for more songs, but I didn't like most of them so far. We'll see I guess how they do. I wish I could make my own mix. IE Transfer my favorite songs to a hard disk and just have them on my menu. Wont happen though =)

Yeah. I wish they had some kind of Dance Dance Make Your Own Revolution DDR song creator of some sorts. The only way to do it is on the PC so far. Heck, I would just like to have a mix of all my favorite offical DDR songs. I'd do that too. Although it would be tough to decide my favorites. ;D

Since you all have computers, why not download Stepmania (DDR Simulator) and then you can have over 900 DDR songs? You can even hook your dance pad up to your PC with a USB converter. Just an idea for those who get tired of paying $40-50 for a few songs.

yes that is what I do as well... but I bought DDRMAX2 so that I could also play on my tv (even though I can hook my computer up to my tv as well... lol) I didn't want to not support Konami for making this excellent game.

I would. I really would. But there's one problem. My computer isn't compatable with it and I can't find a good DDR emulator to run on it. Everything I've had has been terrible. I can't find Dancing With Intensity to try on my computer. The main site is gone for it. I have no choice but to play the released games. I'm not complaining though. No slow downs to worry about. No upgrades or updates to get. No converter to get. I'm happy with what I got. But if I could get a computer version to work.......there are so many songs I would make for it. But it doesn't seem to be wanting to happen. Doesn't matter anyway. I'd still buy Extreme. I love DDR too much not to.

I plan on putting up a FAQ in the PC section this weekend to help some of you who might be getting bored with the handfull of songs you get on video game systems. Watch for it.

I'm not getting bored with the songs. For the longest time I only had the American versions. In fact, the one I played the longest back then was Konamix due to the fact that my brother always took Max and I only had Konamix. That has only 52 songs. I am not getting bored with it. Even if I had stepmania and the adaptor, I still would play the offical mixes. I don't think I could ever get bored of the American mixes. I listen to the music when I'm not playing and DDR to the songs when I am playing! If it's one thing I know, I will never get bored of playing the same songs. Heck, if I'm in the mood, I'll play the same song a few times just because I like it.
Konami has made the mixes to be played and enjoyed for as long as possible. Our mixes aren't that bad. And the best part? You can change to another mix if you get tired of the one you're playing. If I did have 900 or even 500 songs ready to be played on my computer, two things would be a problem. One, I wouldn't know which song to choose so it would take me too long to decide. Two, I'd have to restart every once in a while.
My computer isn't top of the market. It will run out of memory. Loading up the songs, the steps, the animations would chomp down on my memory until it begins to slow down and get choppy until I get mad and have to restart, which will take time. Not only will it run out of memory, but I will run out of space too. Stepmania may be small enough, but the amount of songs I'd have to download and put in to make it worth my while would kill my hard drive.
Stepmania may be nice to make your own songs, but for those that may not like to pirate, stepmania isn't for you. Unless you have purchased the music, it's pirating the songs. So you are drawing even more sales from Konami by using Stepmania. And what are you going to do once Konami stops making Dance Dance Revolution? Then you won't have anymore new songs to rip from the game and add. Konami hasn't released a maker yet for a good reason. If they don't get money from the game, then they can't continue it. Stepmania is freeware and doesn't give any money to Konami.
That's all I'm going to say for now.

Right, it is polite to buy the DDR cd's if you are going to use DDR songs with stepmania, but there are thousands of copywrite free songs available for stepmania for those who just want something different. It's not for everybody, but some people like Stepmania because of the sheer amount of options and customization that goes along with it. Ever get tired of the same anouncer? Sure you can turn him off on the PS2 or Xbox, but why not just DL a few new ones you might like? How bout those annoying dancers that might get on your nerves? Sure you can turn those off too, but why not DL a bunch of new ones you might like? How about looking at those boring background videos while you play DDR? Not with stepmania, thousands of random videos play in the background. For those who can't afford a video game console, stepmania is a pretty good alternative. And as far as konami coming out with new DDR stuff, they are done with it, now they are focusing on their Bemani line of dancing/rhythm/beat matching games. They did very well for themselves. Why do you think they ported it over to a PC, you can buy DDR for PC... which takes players out of the arcades and into the home, Konami is retiring the DDR franchise for now.

Nah. I don't think DDR is done yet. It's still alive in Japan with the latest one. I think it's called the Party Mix or something. There's still time left for DDR, especially in the US as we have many great songs left to get. And as for downloading new stuff; the announcer, dancers, and background movies don't mean anything to me anymore. When I'm playing, I don't see/hear them. I just see the arrows and hear the music. And the extras are on too.
DDR isn't dead yet. They brought it to the PC to get that market of gamer on to it. I don't know how well it worked out, but I don't remember seeing anything more for the PC. It's still popular in the arcades too. DDR isn't going to die that easy. If it does, this site will go down with it and other big sites about DDR.
Also, if you care to take notice, you'll see that DDR is a Bemani line game. And about the PC version bringing players out of the arcade and into the home, what the heck do you think the Playstation and Xbox version(s) have been doing? I'm sorry to be sounding nasty, but this is DDR we're talking about. I'm not letting someone that sees DDR is retiring right now just step all over DDR with muddy shoes and let them not see the dirt. Dance Dance Revolution is not retiring yet! As long as games are still being released in Japan, they'll be porting one for the US soon after!
Sure, stepmania is a nice program that offers plenty for something free. But remember this stepmania fans, without DDR there would have been no stepmania. Dance Dance Revolution started this whole craze and I don't really care who thinks stepmania is the best. If you love stepmania so much that you want to constantly advertise and put it over what brought it's birth, go somewhere else I say! There's a section for it here. Go there if you can't find somewhere else. I'm very tired and when I get tired, my anger comes out. I don't care if what I've said will end up suspending my account. I feel this is something that needed to be said.
