If you plan on getting good at ddr, playing at the arcade is the only way to go.

by good i mean PA good, if you can get sdg's at home you can probably get like 20 at the arcade.

Or there is always Stepmania set to Judge Difficulty 7 or higher...that'll get those PAs up.

Makes sure when getting a metal pad that it uses Polycarbonate for the arrows instead of Hard Acryllic. Acryllic is liable to break and Polycarbonate will last you much longer.
Should be around the $150-$200 price tag, check out eBay.
