Only problem with 'making the switch' - it would be near impossible to not take in some type of dairy product, unless you strictly made all of your own meals etc. Of course, you could also just check the packaging I dunno, this is starting to sound better to me all the time. Now, question. Is or is not butter a form of dairy product? You can get nondairy butter right?

so I can't have dairy products if I go vegan? O.O I would die without yogurt if I had to give up meats. Maybe I could be half vegan... woooo that sounds hypocratic... but it also sounds appealing. I'm not really into meats so much that I couldn't give them up for the sake of weight loss. I need to find more info on this. >.> <.<

There are soy-based spreads and vegtable oil based spreads, to answer the butter question.
And no, vegan means nothing that comes from animals, so no dairy.
The good news is that you can still get a lot of the health benefits of vegetarianism by cutting WAY back on your meat consumption. Say, maybe one serving a week. The rest of the time eat veg.

Everything I've read indicates honey is not vegan. Honey is the bee's food source during the winter, so by taking it from the hives, you are "intentionally doing harm" to the bees.

Okay I have seen a lot of hate on this board. First off being a vegetarian is a choice and you can't do it over night, if you can then I commend you. I first went pesco vegetarian and only ate fish then I cut out all meats I now eat dairy and eggs and Veggies. Vegans and Vegetarians can actually be very healthy in fact I have a friend who has a very rare disease called Fredricks Ataxia www.ataxia.org/ and I believe that she is still alive to day because of the fact that she is a vegan, she also has two very healthy children which follow the same vegan lifestyle as her and her husband do. Having your children eat as vegan or vegetarian is not wrong either if you think about it any one who eats meat has their children eat it too, so would you then be forcing your children to eat meat?? I am not saying you are forcing them to eat it but you are showing them your eating patterns and telling them that it is okay in your opinion to eat meat. Not saying it is wrong either. As for the bible, yes we were vegetarians at one time, Adam talked to the animals they were his company so would you eat your company, think about it. I also believe that it says that God gave the children of Israel birds to eat when they were in the desert, it goes along with the mana from heaven. And I have been told that it said we could eat meat but there would be consequences i.e heart disease, high cholesterol. This is only my theory of it. If you would like more info on it then you can go to www.jesusveg.com I think this site may be a lil biased but it does have some information on the subject. As for people in the bible some of the greatest men in the bible were vegetarians such as Daniel and Shadrach Mishach and Abendego( I think it was them) all ate vegetables obeying God. And Jesus I think you could say was a Pesco Vegetraian, I don't know if he ate the fish in the feeding of the 5000 or not but yeah. As for PETA I don't agree with everything they say, Everytime I go to the circus they are there with their elephant so called facts. When I went to see the animals those animals look happy well fed and during the show I never once saw a whip touch the animals, and they stressed that the animals an their trainers trust each other and that they do not beat thier animals they don't even hit them. The whips they use are just for sounds. As for being a vegan their are some great products out their that are non dairy based. I haven't found a vegan cheese yet but I have found vegan cream cheese and a soy yogurt, which I don't know if it would be considered vegan or not cause it has the bacteria cultures in it. Here is the web site for the vegan butter and cream cheese tho www.galaxyfoods.com The ingredient you have to look for is Caesin, it is derived from Milk. As for honey there is an awesome product out there called Agave Nectar www.blueagavenectar.com/buyblueagavenectar.html and it taste just like honey you can't tell the differance. It is great in tea. I am a vegetarain for health reasons and the fact that unless I get my meat from the local butcher I don't know if it has hormones or not, or how the animals were treated, I stress to eat Organic as often as possible. Also I have lost weight since becoming a vegetarian. I am healthy for the most part, I have a lump on my thyroid not related to being vegtarian before you say "It's cause you don't eat meat". And I believe being in the sun you absorb Vitamin B12 I could be wrong but I think that was the vitamin. True vegetarians are not protien deprived, unless they only eat chips and soda all day long. I am sure there are more malnourishe meat eaters out there than there are Vegetarains as well. As for your professor Havix everyone is entitled to their own opionion but if your professor told you every one who jumps off cliffs lives longer than those who don't would you go and jump off a cliff? You can't believe everything you hear you have to take grain of salt with it. Just because he or she is a professor does not mean they educate themselves. They may have a biased opinion and don't care to learn the truth. I posted two articles on vegtarianism in the dropping pounds forum here is the link getupmove.proboards26.com/index.cgi?board=pounds&action=display&thread=1126123312 I try not to be biased I am just saying that others that have posted on this board need to be a little more respectful and research what they say before they say it. Vegetarianism is not for everyone it takes some one with a strong mind to go all the way with it. I hope this has helped those with questions or hate towards us who choose not to eat meat. WINGS P.S. We are not stupid because we have taken the time to educate ourselves and other instead of just blurting out things that we can't back up or are derogatory towards others.
