Before I would like to say that I have perused a lot of these posts but I did not find answers to my questions. I am 42y/F 213lbs. I have DDR Extreme 2 for 2 years and played it once. Initially, it was a Christmas gift for my kids. But they are not much into it. Anyway, last September I worked with a personal trainer for 3 months and followed a healthy food regimen and lost weight as well as girth. However, the holidays put an end to my good food behavior and I can no longer afford the personal trainer. The thing is (no offense to anyone) I HATE WORKING OUT!!!!! That is why I had used a personal trainer because I knew there was someone there to push me. So, I thought to myself maybe I do something fun, I can get into that mode and then it will become second nature. So now here are my questions: As a beginner, what mode should I use? Can you recommend any particular routine? How many times a week and how long a day have you worked out and seen visible results? I understand that these are redundant questions to some but I would really appreciate if someone could at least give me a nudge in the right direction. I will be posting my weekly updates, so I hope to show some improvement quickly with your help. I am in New York City, so if anyone out here and like to meet to DDR sometime, I'm game (no pun intended ) Nat

Hi! And welcome to the boards. ;D As a beginner, what mode should I use? Can you recommend any particular routine? How many times a week and how long a day have you worked out and seen visible results? As a beginner you should stick to beginner mode or light mode. Try to look for the lowest level songs (usually represented by feet). They range in difficulty from 1-10. All beginner songs are one foot, light mode songs can vary anywhere between two and five feet so make sure you check and don't pick something too overwhelming and challenging. Also, don't keep your feet in the center like the animations do on beginner mode. Start out by having one foot on the left arrow and one foot on the right. It's easier to continuously hit notes this way. My routine is usually 30 min a day/minimum...more if I have time... but make a schedule that works for you. As with any new routine, you will probably get sore at first so you might want to start out with an every other day routine so that your body can adjust. My results were pretty fast with my starting weight around 215lbs.... now that I'm down around 170 lbs the weight is harder to come off and I have to focus more on healthy living as a whole (cal counting and all that jazz). Hope that helps.

Hi Nat, I just started on DDR myself. Since you're 213 lbs, I would suggest you turn Jumps to OFF. Your knees would get blasted by those jumps. Even without Jumps, you'll still get a good workout and last a lot longer.
I went out and bought a 3x3 rubbermat (Home Depot) for under my mat. You know the mats that they have clerks stand on at the cashiers in the grocery store. That helps too. My workout on DDR is actually close to being Low Impact now that Jumps is OFF.
Don't feel you have to do 30 minute workouts. You can do 15 and 15 later on in the day if you like. Another idea for you, try imputing your workouts and foods eaten every single day into Fitday.com.
