Keep at it. The thing about thrift stores is that they never have the same stuff each time you go back. And of course the good stuff gets bought up right away. It's also key to find the thrift stores in your area and determine which ones end up getting the good stuff, either because of the charity they represent, or because they're the primary drop-off point for the area, or they're in or near a well-to-do area. The larger Goodwill stores are usually good for this, as are the Value Village folks (if you've got them). But it varies from city to city, so YMMV.

I have some very light dumbbells and they work just fine for me! I'm already starting to see some improvement

Yeah same, we've got the interchangeable ones. They work good. I don't know where they came from, but they're there.
