Okay so what's the deal with muffins? I was sitting at work on my break and I really needed some food so I thought I'd be all healthy and avoid the junk food and I got a muffin instead. A pistachio flavored muffin with walnuts... But I'm sitting there eating it and thinking wow this is pretty much just like a piece of cake.
So what's the deal? Should I just not eat muffins anymore either and toss them in the same category as doughnuts and cake?

I don't eat muffins. I think you can get muffins that aren't that bad for you but they taste like granulated ass. Just stick to something else is my advice.

I had to cut my love affair with muffins. A typical muffin you'll buy at a dougnut shop can top off at 400-500 calories and about 15-20 grams of fat. Even a low fat muffin has about 300-400 calories, with less than 4 grams of fat. And don't eat bagels, they're just as bad It's alright to indluge every once in a while, but usually even doughnuts have less calories and less fat than a regular muffin

I am an ex-muffin junkie. I used to love those big chocolate muffins with lots of chocolate chips.. Sadly, like most people on diets, I have had to give these up. However, I did find these muffins that are free from dairy, egg, processed sugar, and wheat that my whole family loves. I'm not sure about their calories because I make them myself from scratch, but they're one of the few treats I regularly allow myself. It does have a lot of maple syrup, so they are a treat, but they're healthier then a lot of other things out there. 1/2 cup canola oil 1/2-3/4 maple syrup egg replacer for two eggs 2 grated large carrots 1 grated zucchini 1 3/4 cup rice flour (I find brown rice flour tastier) 1 tsp each baking powder and soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 tsp all spice Mix the wet stuff, add the carrots and zucchini and all the rest. Lumps are okay and will make the muffins fluffy. Pour into greased muffin pan and pake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. They're not exactly as good as a chocolate muffin (and really, what is?) but they're pretty close. ;D

bagels are amazing but seriously, muffins are just an excuse to eat cake for breakfast

Allow yourself a muffin once a week on a specific day. Miss getting your muffin that day? Too bad, you'll have to wait until next week. Denying yourself indulgences just leads to resentment. Learn to indulge yourself in a controlled fashion, and you'll be much better off.

that's exactly what i do with pizza. i set a specific day a week - at first it was really hard (cuz i'm a pizza-a-holic) and it just was excrutiatingly hard to get to that day. but now it's gotten to the point where i don't even really want pizza. it's been 2+ weeks since i've had pizza if i didn't do that once a week thing (cuz i sure as heck couldn't give pizza up completely) i would have killed my diet so long ago.... thanks once a week thing...you really helped me

Don't give up on muffins! Weight Watchers makes some awesome chocolate muffins. You can find them in the frozen food aisle. Two in a box. They are pretty big and I think they're almost completely fat free.
