Hello, everybody! My name is Iris and I'm 17, and I'm now trying my darndest to lose weight.
I've been struggling with my weight since who-knows-when, thanks to years of consuming my grandmother's 4-star cooking featuring oils and starches. Right now I'm about 5-foot-2 and I weigh over 190 pounds or so. (We don't have a scale here, since it was inaccurate/old, so we threw it out a while ago.) I'm pretty much very unhappy with my weight, so I've instituted DDR for my exercise. I've only been doing this DDR workout for about 3 days (today being the third day). I play DDR Max 2, but I also have DDR Extreme.
Right now I play on Light to Standard (I was SO happy when I made it to Standard! It's SO much more fun than Light Mode!!!) and I've been burning 500+ kcal a day. Today I managed to burn 550+ kcal. (This is pretty much because I'm competitive with my boyfriend; he burns 500+ a day with his/our new plan, so I didn't want to do any less. More on us later.)
I know there's some questions about the calorie counter for DDR, but to me, I think some exercise is better than none at all. What I'd like to know is if I'm doing alright and should I follow this track? 500 kcal a day with DDR? Is it too little, too much?
I'm doing my best to follow this through with my boyfriend; it was pretty much his idea. We're both overweight, so we've decided to do something about it together (even though it's a long-distance relationship; he lives in Vermont and I in Florida).
I've modified my diet by staying away from what my grandmother cooks (evil!) and cooking for myself. I've recently discovered that I do enjoy cooking. A LOT. When I cook, I do not use any oil (ie. Crisco, Mazola), only the non-stick spray for pans.
So I'm eating in moderation, limiting myself to diet soda, juices (primarily orange juice), and water. Should I make any changes? (I know I could get rid of the soda, and I should.)
I really need support, because with every diet/plan I've done (Atkins, Weight Watchers, etc.), it's with my mom, and usually I had the stronger willpower. She'd drop out first, and then I'd follow. This happened repeatedly, so now I'm taking matters into my own hands. My mom is going to try to get me a South Beach Diet book, because a few people my mom knows says it's very good, and it's not really a fad diet. Mistake?
I want to lose some weight for prom next year, as well as for my own personal health (I do have asthma) and for my self esteem. I'd just basically would like to know if I'm on the right track, and if I need to make any changes.
Thank you so much!

PS: Ahh! I'm going out to dinner! (SALAD SALAD SALAD!!!)
