I was first introduced to DDR about a year ago and play it when I have a free chance. I plan on getting a metal DDR pad soon, anyways. I have been a vegetarian for five years and I did lose weight when I first became one; I became a vegetarian for moral reasoning, I hate animals being killed. Well, I lost weight and such. But, I do a lot of carbo-loading, so Ive gained about 20 lbs since JUly, 2004. Here is a picture back in July: And heres one now: Not that great of a picture, but it works. Anyways, I want to start cardiovascular things, so I thought that doing DDR more would be good. I plan on DDRing 3-4x a week for about an hour. Any clue how much weight will be lost during any duration of time. Also, any other vegetarians that are carb-lovers like me? I have gained about 15-20 lbs from carbs, so Im going to eat healthier and also work out more. Sound good?

I plan on DDRing 3-4x a week for about an hour. Any clue how much weight will be lost during any duration of time. It's individual. It also depends on a whole host of factors (Diet, base metabolism, any undiagnosed medical issues, etc). In the end nobody can tell you for sure how much weight you will lose. What I can tell you is that the amount of DDR you're planning on playing is good, and that it will help you lose weight.

Wow, lots of fellow vegetarians on this board. I always feel like such an outcast whenever I mention I'm a vegetarian. But I live in a place where you find moose and reindeer in the meat market, not in the petting zoo. Now let's go swim in a pool full of noodles, my fellow carb lovers.

I think once I became a vegitarian the starchy carbs atributed to most of my gain... been a vegitarian for 2 1/2 years now. When you think of vegitarianism you forget that starches can be a real problem... at least I did. So my max weight was 210-215 somewhere around there... thing is I never cared until a "friend" of mine said something along the lines of "I'm getting to the point where I would even date someone your size" yeah...real nice...but you know that's where I took a step back and thought, whoah..I must have a problem here... which is when I decided to take up DDR... something I wanted to try in the past but was always scared of doing... In the first three months I lost I would say the bulk of my weight...down to about 180...after that is has been slow...but as least I'm not gaining...and I had to cut way back on the starches.

mmmmmm carbs are yummy...
i'm a vegan carb lover! I gained weight when i made the switch from vegetarian to vegan. I find as a vegan I eat more i guess cause the protien and fat that is found in dairy and eggs are filling. At first i made up for it with carbs. Now i'm trying for more whole grains and stuff. I find that if i prepare all of the carbs that i should have in a day at once and put them all in the fridge and i can freely snack from that and it keeps me under control.

I've taken a turn for the vegan lifestyle, as well as most of you. My weakness are french-fries. It's pretty much the only thing I eat when I go out to a resteraunt unless it's Thai cuizine. Ohh how I love my tofu pad thai!
Anyway, I haven't noticed any weight gain but rather a tiny loss (haven't weighed in yet but last time I weighed (before I started working out with DDR I was at 285) and I've also been eating more frequently, but smaller meals than before. I'll throw 5 MorningStar "chick'n" nuggets in the microwave for a bedtime snack with some mustard and I'm set until morning.
I've noticed that I can control my appetite more with eating vegan foods. I eat and snack probably 6 times a day.. sometimes I'll snack on peanuts or pick at some salad before a meal.
My belt is going one notch tighter but that's the notch I used to use which is pretty worn out already. Gotta get a new belt soon, but I want to wait until I can go 2 notches tighter before I pitch in for a new one or something.
brok, you're lookin' pretty good. Keep it up!! great smile!

So what were your reasons for turning vegan?
I turned into a vegetarian 5 years ago after being a picky eater, and I have empathy for animals.
If you drop meat and turn into a vegan, you WILL lose weight; I lost about 10 pounds or so. I think its due to the lack of fatty acids, amino acids, etc.
I dont eat vegetables because I really dont like 'em. Odd, I know. So, I eat a lot of carbs. Granted, I could eat healthier, I just hate veggies!

I'm not a vegetarian, but I mostly eat salads or Subway. I can't just cut out meat all together. I eat chicken Breast subs. I have lost about 25 Pounds. I want to get down to about 200 atleast. Im 260 right now I started out at 285. I hit a platue at 270 and finally hit 269 and it went from there. I am now at another plateu of 260. I think i could be under 260 right now but yesterday i didnt exercise or eat right... anyways all in all im going good. I think i gained most of my weight being depressesd and eating to relieve the pain becuase my brother died about 4 years ago when i was skinny. well Good Luck

I became a vegan after 14 years of vegetarianism because *DISGUSTING ALERT* i found out that there is pus in milk. While researching the validity of this claim, i learned lots of other nastiness about the production of animal products and the cruelty that the animals go through. My consciousness couldnt let me be a vegetarian with that knowledge so i made the switch.
brok702 there are lots and lots of yummy ways to make veggies, i can give you some recipie ideas if you're interested!
Paintballer01 congratulations on the progress you've made so far! Sorry to hear about youre brother, i lost mine 6 years ago so though i dont know how it affected you, i can relate.
Pats on everyones back for thier progress!

I cant stand the taste of soy products, especially milk and yogurt.
I know that animals are being hurt or killed for dairy.
I like broccoli and cheese!

i didnt like soy products either until i tried silk's very vanilla soy milk. i think its good enough to drink by the glass! I HATED yogurt, any kind until a few weeks ago when i was put on super duper antibiotics that i HAD to have yogurt with each dose. After 2 weeks of eating it 3 times a day, i was hooked!
one of my faves is broccoli cooked with massive amounts of garlic mmmmm (i ate a whole bunch of broccoli made this way by myself last night - mildly embarassed that i ate that much but its super healthy - lots and lots of calcium and low in calories so its ok right?)

Another vegetarian who loves her carbs, right here. They kill me, honestly they do. The family I grew up in always raised me on really, really hearty food. Tons of meat and carbs and just... everything. I think it may be contributed to our German-ness. I can't make myself believe that carbs are really THAT awful. My reason for becoming a vegetarian was also because I couldn't stand the idea of animals killed... even a commercial with lobster meat poking out of the shell makes me queasy. Also, I'm addicted to soy products. I love them, I'm not even sure why. I can't help myself. (Also, I'm new. Hello!)

I maintain I wouldn't have gained so much weight if I hadn't moved to America! It's a sad excuse, though. Good foods are harder to find here, but I also didn't make an effort to. So, it's my fault. I could also go on about how I never want to leave the house because where I live is awfully ugly, but that's bad too, isn't it? I'm an excuse machine. Really need to stop that, hah. But yeah, I'm not too fantastic with resisting eating, especially if I'm bored. Seeing eating as something to do is my downfall, which is why DDR is fantastic. It's something to do that burns instead of adds calories.

I think its due to the lack of fatty acids, amino acids, etc. I dont eat vegetables because I really dont like 'em. Odd, I know. So, I eat a lot of carbs. Granted, I could eat healthier, I just hate veggies! I turned to vegetarianism for a couple of reasons. For one, I finally realized that my stomach isn't designed to digest meat or dairy. Long story short, I developed an ulcer in my abdomen about 5 years ago that I didn't realize was upset by all the dairy and meat I consumed on a regular basis. Very painful--I think I have a good idea of what menstral cramps feel like. Another reason is that I don't want to support the mistreatment and brutal slaughter of the intelligent mammals we cohabitate with on this planet. Research has shown that it costs more money to raise and slaughter a cow for food than it does to feed starving children in other countries. But that's an entirely different reason all together. Another is that it is simply healthier to eat organic and soy or tofu based foods. All kinds of healthful benefits. You've got to get your vegetables!! It's not quantity, it's QUALITY!!
