I just read two excellent books. One is the step diet. To sum up it says you should walk 2000 extra steps per day to keep from gaining weight as you age and then add more steps to lose weight and cut out 100 cals per day. They have a free website americaonthemove.org where you walk a trail. You log in your steps each day. I am wearing my pedometer and doing DDR..(I average about 12,000 steps per day) And it shows you how far you would go on the trail. Fun motivating and free!

I had read somewhere that 10,000 steps a day should be your target (when my wife recorded her steps she was only averaging about 3000 steps per day)

Sadly the average is about 5000 and under per day. I have to move it move it (hmm is that a DDR song?) to get in my steps!
Then think about this.. on average 1 calorie is burned by 20 steps..one mini snickers is 80 cals..so you have to walk 1600 steps to walk that off...
