Hi I'm new here, and I was wondering what would be a good exercise routine for me? I want something that will help me loose weight somewhat fast (it doesn't have to be to fast) and not be so tired out afterwards that I have to go to sleep or something. Much help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks

You'll probably want to mix diet with your exercise. That'll help maximize the effectiveness of the workout you are doing. As for the exercise, can you give me a little more description of putting pressure on your lower back? Do you think it's a strength issue?

It puts pressure on my lower back. I don't really think it's a strength issue...

I think it's just because of my weight. It puts pressure on my lower back. Not to be nit-picky, but that doesn't help me understand what you're feeling in your lower back. If you feel it's a weight issue, then it most likely is a lower back strength problem. If that is the case, then playing should strengthen your lower back, enabling you to play longer and at a higher difficulty level. For the time being, just play at whatever level you feel comfortable with. Your back will strengthen with time. The actions of playing DDR don't pose a serious risk of lower back injury, so you're unlikely to pull anything. If you do feel like your back is taking too much of a beating, stop playing. If you'd like a method of strengthening your "core" muscles (Mainly abs and lower back) without playing DDR, look into Pilates. The whole Pilates system was designed for dancers to strengthen core muscles groups that control the majority of balance and motion. Combined with Yoga, it's a wonderful and gentle way to stretch and strengthen your body.

Ok. So how long do you think I should play everyday? I read a few posts about what level to play on according to your pulse so I know that, but how long should I play for everyday?

As long as you feel you can, but I'd recommend no less than 30-45 minutes at least 3 times per week. It's all up to how your back feels, though.

My lower back sometimes feels tight when I do DDR. I usually stretch it out and it feels better. The stretch I do is I reach down and touch my toes with my knees bent. While still touching my toes, I slowly straighten my legs. This is also a really good stretch for my hamstrings (back of my thighs). I usually do it between songs until I feel better.
