Hello there, here's the story
For the past two years I've been 240 lbs. It would fluctuate between 240 to 238, to 246 if I ate bad one week. I picked up DDR Max 2 back in early july. I've been using it every other day for 35-40 min at a time (and I always make sure my heart rate is 22-23 beats per 10 seconds) . My weight actually went from 243-238 within a matter of 3-4 weeks. But then for some reason I went back to 246 again at the end of july. about 3-4 weeks ago I started weight lifting on the days that I did not do DDR.
So basically every day i'm either doing DDR or weight lifting for about 40 minutes at a time. My weight lifting routine as of now consists of bicep curling (on a seat) a 25 lb dumbell at about 3 sets of 10 and one set of 5. I then curl a 15 lb dumbell in 2 sets of ten. I then use the 15 lb dumbell to do tricep curls, 2 sets of 10. I then do all of the crunch routines except for the bicycle (I can't seem to get coordinated properly for it) that have been listed here, so combining all the different crunches (Side crunches, superman crunches, leg lifts, etc) comes out to about 90-100 crunches in total.
I then do 10 standard push-ups, then 2 sets of 10 modified push-ups (where you use your knees, I can't do more then 10 standard push-ups) Here is my problem, in the past 3-4 weeks instead of losing weight, i'm gaining weight. In the past 3-4 weeks I've gained over 15 pounds, I went from 243 to 247 to 251, and now i weigh in at 256! My question is: what the hell is going on?
My eating habits, although they could stand to be much better, haven't changed in the past year or so and I managed to maintain my weight before working out on my current eating habits. The only change i've made to my eating habits is that after weight lifting I try to eat lowfat cottage cheese or baked beans for the protein. But neither one should warrant such a dramatic gain in weight. I don't look like I've gained 15 pounds either, everyone else thinks I look the same as well hence the confusion.
My clothes don't feel any tighter on me either. So my question is how and why am I gaining weight so rapidly? I can only think it might be muscle weight. DDR has made my legs tone up rather well, although my calves now have become much bigger then they used to be due to DDR. I know my arms are gaining in strength because my original curling routine was only 2 sets of 10 on the 25 lb dumbell followed by 2 sets of 10 of the 15 lb dumbell. It's been getting progressively easier to lift the 25 lb dumbell more and more. But still, gaining 15 lbs in 3-4 weeks time seems like a lot for either muscle or fat.
Anyone have any ideas? information? suggestions? advice? any would be much appreciated. I recently uppped my DDR time in workout mode to 45 min in hopes of it helping in weight loss (although if the weight is being replaced by muscle thats fine too, so long as the stomach slims up I don't care) Anyway thanks for reading.
P.S. Sorry, here's my info currently: 23 year old male, 5'10, 256(?) lbs
