I used to play DDR at my local lazertag, and my father finally decided to buy me the soft pad and Ultramix for Xbox.
Since Ultramix does not offer Beggining, I was forced to do light.
I can pretty much master all the songs on Light, but Standard just isn't my thing quite yet.
I'm a 15 (16 in October), 5'6/5'7 230lb female. I love DDR, And hae no problem playing for a half an hour, maybe even hours on end.
The thing is - My diet. I've never really been a soda or koolaid, or sweetened drinks person. I just usually drink water.
So, There really isn't anything to cut back on. I usually don't eat breakfast or lunch, and I don't eat too much dinner.
I figure I have the body, where I eat a flippin cheeto, and I gain two pounds.
So, I'm focusing all my weight loss on playing DDR, And not eating. (However, I'f I have to not eat, I will)
According the the health assoc....I should be 90+ lbs lighter.
Well, I want to try a 5 month weight loss plan. How much, for you people who have weighed close to my weight, did you loose in 5 months?
I would like to loose around 50 lbs, or 10 lbs a month. What is the time limit I should do 'A day' in order to achieve the 10 lbs a month?
Starting this monday, I'm going to be taking a variety of diet pills, to hopefully burn some of the fat while I play DDR.
However, I have no clue how long I should play, and what I should do.
Any advice is great, and hearing your weight loss stories (How much you lost, in how much time) would be great.
Thanks!

I have basically the same question! I have been wanting to post the same question for a few weeks now.. but glad someone else did first. If anyone could give me tips also. I would like to lose about 50 lbs, that'd be so great for me! I weigh 196 right now and am 5'8-5'9, age 17, and have about a 5 month deadline to meet, so yep about 10 lbs a month. Please tell us how much ddr we should play, any advice is well appreciated! Thanks

It took me a year and a month to lose 23 pounds.. from:186 current:163 I usually played on and off, but when I was really consistant I burned about 400cals. I got better last jan so i upped the cal meter to 500. in feb I upped it again to 600. I still play on and off just right now i've been working full time and get very tired, so i've been playing less recently. But I watch what i eat. also if you starve yourself your body is just gunna go to starvagtion mode. which means you'll burn less fat since your body wants to keep it since your not eating . try eating a rice cracker in the morning and the afternoon to show your body that you actually have food. plus from past experiences diet pills dont work.. I've tried -ephreadra (speeds up your heart) -CLA (cuts the fat) -Creitien(give your muscles water) -fat blocker(self explanitory) The only pill that actually helped my body was the multi-day vitimin. When I was on a high protien diet I didn't get all the vitimins that I needed. hope I changed your mind in any way.

My first piece of advice is to go see a doctor before starting your weight loss plan. Run your plans by him and get his blessing, first. He may want to run a few checks on you to check for hypothyroidism or other conditions that could affect your weight gain/loss. Personally I'd advise against a weight loss pill. If you look at the history of weight loss pills, they have traditionally been ineffective or dangerous.
My next piece of advise is to get a food journal. Write down everything you eat every day, and how you're feeling when you do eat. At the end of each week, get a food counts book and count out the calories of what you've eaten (You can also mark this down as you eat). This will give you a baseline of what you're eating, and you can see if you've been eating too much, or too little.
Yes, too little. Your body has some wonderful self-preservation methods. One of them is to lower your metabolism if you aren't getting enough food, in order to preserve your energy stores (fat). This makes it harder to burn the fat you havem and easier to put new fat on. That's another reason it's important to see a doctor before you start a weight loss plan.

Good advice, Abrannan.
The only thing that I would like to highlight is the food journal. When I first started, I was surprised at how much I was eating. It wasn't until I started writing down every little thing that went into my mouth that I came to grips with my bingeing.
Most overeating is due to emotional factors, so writing a journal of feelings is really helpful too. I write two pages every day whether I feel like I have anything to say or not. I just let my fingers type it up and I am continually amazed at what shows up on the paper. I think it would be beneficial for anyone on this journey to start writing regularly because it has helped me so much.

You must be very upset that you are having trouble losing weight when you dont eat much. HOWEVER studies have shown that people eat much more than they say. IF you truly are NOT eating very much, and are exercising then you may have a physical problem. I would suggest you start by visiting your family doctor. Keep a log and write down what you eat..including everything..post a few days worth of what you eat here. DO NOT take diet pills. They just dont work. If they worked..everyone would be taking them and losing weight and keeping it off! BUT THEY DONT WORK! simple as that. I did a lot of investigating for the diet site I work for and believe me..what I discovered was appalling..falsified data, claims based on one or two studies..even the dairy industry is guilty of misleading people. DONT WASTE YOUR CASH. Go get a check up and post some sample days meals.

i've been planning on my 5 month weight loss too. I weigh 137 lbs. 5'4, and i want to lose 30 lbs. I'll start this October 11, 2004. I've started my South beach diet and played a few times (about 3 hours every other day) this month of October. I want to extend the time spent on DDR and do it everyday. I'll keep on posting if anything had changed

137 at 5'4", and you want to lose 30 lbs? You sound healthy. Either you are extremely small-framed, very young or being too hard on yourself. I am 5'1", and when I got below 109, my periods stopped.

Yeah, my wife is 138lbs at 5'3", and she's hot. (I'm not bragging, just comparing). Granted, my wife wants to lose a few more pounds, too, but I think aiming for 120 is a better/safer/healthier target for now, Batgirl.

A. how does your wife stay fit when she doesnt seem very active (you mentioned under 5000 steps a day) and do you have kids?
If not she may want to be careful if she is not active.
I am 5'4 and weighed around 110 when I was in my 20's that sure changed after kids because I was not careful and assumed I would always have a great shape(ie I never had to watch my weight)

She's active and fit. She works out three times a week (Curves). She just doesn't get a chance to move much at work (she's a family therapist, so she's pretty much confined to her office all day). She's lost about 30lbs in the last year, and is now back to her wedding weight. She's fairly busty, so that adds several pounds that others may or may not have.
We don't currently have kids, though we're in the pre-planning stages, trying to decide if we want to have our own, or adopt. She's leaning towards adoption, in part because she gets a chance to see how many kids there are in need of a good stable family, and partly because she's a little scared of the pregnancy/birth process.

It's probably already been said but I'll say it again, "Not eating......is not good". Try eating a healthy breakfast, and if you don't have time make time or pack a breakfast. Also, eat lunch! If you are still in school, eat the school lunch. The lunches can be unhealthy choices at times but the proportions are small and probably covers all of the food groups. My problem with food is that I eat too much, not necessarily bad stuff just too much. I'm trying to change that and as of my first week I've lost around 2 or 3 pounds.

I don't know if this will help you, but I thought I'd share it anyway.
I was looking through my old high school year books around the time of our 15 year class reunion (a couple of years ago). I looked at the pictures of myself and I was amazed at how thin I was back then. All I could remember of my high school years was being the "fat" girl, but looking at the pictures, it was obvious that if I had gotten any thinner, I would have been underweight.
I hung out with all the cheerleaders and beautiful people in high school. My best friend was a Japanese girl who had been cheerleader all through our high school years. She was 4'8" and weighed 105 with bird-like features and bones. I was constantly comparing myself to her and my sturdy Italian frame would have never looked like her delicate Japanese features, no matter how much I exercised and dieted.
I'm not telling you this story to convince you to stop dieting. If your weight is within the healthy range for your height, you should keep eating healthy and exercising every day for fun and to maintain. I guess I just look at my high school years as a time when I was the "fat" girl and it wasn't true. I was just comparing myself to the thinnest, tiniest person in our school. I wish that I had been able to see that I was beautiful in my own buxom way.
My high school years would have been a lot different if I had been able to recognize my power and quit comparing myself to other people.
