Hello all...I'm new to this forum......new to PS2 and DDR as well (I'm mostly a PC gamer). I was really excited to see this kind of comunity up and running (especially since so many places I had looked at for DDR had last updated months or *years* ago), and to see that people were really using DDR to lose weight. Once I saw all this, I knew that---given my love of video games---DDR was certainly worth a try, both in itself as a game, and as a means to weight loss.
In any case, I just thought I would say hello and such. I might post again, if there happen to be any results.
Later-------DDRNewbie
(p.s. as a martial artist, DDR has already shown me how pathetic my footwork is! haha)

Welcome!
Your footwork is probably fine. DDR is a very specialized skill. You have to be able to read the arrows, translate that to a foot movement relative to where you already are, what foot your weight is on, what the step after this one is, etc. And you have to do all of that on the beat. It's a lot like reading music, and like music, you need to practice, practice, practice to build up the muscle memory to get good.

Well...I'm not quite sure if it's the same thing as reading music [being a five-specialized instrument musician myself] but when you think about the general trend and way it works does somewhat resemble reading music... you just don't have to worry about ombecheur, tone control, note readings, music level... etc.

Thanks for encouragement....and Claudio, I think he just meant that DDR is similar to reading music in that one has to translate a 2-dimensional symbol into a physical action (whether thats drawing a bow, vibrating a reed, etc.).

My wife disagrees with me, because she sees no correlation between the arrows on the screen and the tone of the music. So maybe it's more like sight-reading music for a drum kit. Each line/arrow direction corresponds to a different piece of equipment. I'm a three instrument man myself (piano, trumpet, guitar).
