I have been getting better at this. I can now read every spin out of patterns and follow it, and getting better at actually moving to rhythm and stuff. The problem is, im afraid i look like some white guy bouncing and sometimes spinning. I'm not the best at actualy dancing

Boo to freestyling.
It's dumb. If you're actually going to dance, I say TRULY dance!
It's all about the PA.

Aww don't listen to him. If you want to freestyle, I say freestyle your little heart out. They have some videos on DDRFreak of people freestyling in competitions. Some of them look kinda... odd. I watched one of some guy freestyling to DXY! and he had a cape of a DDR mat and everything. He looked odd. Some of them looked kinda cool though, they looked like they were breakdancing. Good luck

If you're afraid to look like a white guy bouncing and spinning, then that's exactly what you'll look like. If you have no fear and do what feels natural, and have confidence in your movement, then you'll look like a freestyler. It's the same as in regular dancing, it's all about the attitude and confidence. PA is overrated in my opinion. People who don't play DDR are much more impressed by someone who can freestyle a light song and make it look like he's not trying to follow arrows than by someone who can AAA Max 300.

It's not that I'm scared of looking like one, we all have to start somewhere Like I said in the other thread, I just let my body move me. And as long as i have fun... yeah, but looking good at doing it and knowing i do would be good reassurance

I was freestyling yesterday at the arcade, cause I for some reason was feeling cocky... that and I cashed in a $5 so I had money to burn. I like playing Lets Groove on light and doing the jumps backwards. It's fun and it looks cool when I don't completely f it up. I freestyle WAY better @ home though cause I'm not worried about what people think when theyv see me.

Or act like you own the place (in your head of course)

I am more wowed by people hitting the harder songs and hitting a lot of the arrows than stuff like
***JAZZHANDS***
and excriment like that....

1. I said people who don't play DDR are more wowed by style than technical ability. DDR players know what to look for, and know how hard it is to play the 10 footers. 2. If you think jazz hands are a major part of good freestyling, the watch a few of the freestyle videos here: journals.rpungin.fotki.com/ddr/category/videos/ Granted, they still aren't as impressive as the video of sketch playing PSMO backward(also on the page). 3. There is no "I" in excrement

im not much of a freestyler but i do a great job of having a siezure infront of little bunnys on a tv screen with wierd techno music in the backround.
i do like tro do a spin now and then for crowds but never if im trying to get a high score.

Freestyling is fun.. Do it for yourself. Once you get good enough, do it for others.
