I recently purchased DDR Max2 a couple weeks ago. It has been having an intermittent problem. Sometimes, I will pass a song with a better grade (like an 'A' instead of a 'B'). Instead of saying "Wow it's a new record", it'll say something that they usually say when you got the same grade, like "I really like your dancing". The screen says the improved grade on it, but when you go back to the music screen, the grade is not updated on the wheel. Has anyone had this problem? I thought it might be the memory card, so I saved it on my boyfriend's memory card and the same thing happened. Could this be a problem with the game? Should I try to return it?

Not a bug, not a problem with your memory card. It's possible to get a higher grade, but a lower score, and the system only keeps the higher score. So if you get all Perfects up until the last four steps that you get boos on and score a B, you'll likely keep that score/grade even if you full combo the song with 50 greats and score a AA.

That makes sense. I thought my game was going crazy. I wish there was an option you could set so it would record the higher grade.

Or at least that the grade was tied to the score, so that higher score = higher grade.

That's a possibility. Or it could be a Disk Read error. Do you have the same problem with a different PS2?

fyi - when I use my ps2 I keep one of those air spray cans next to it and spray the insides out before each use - this keeps the disk read errors way down.
