ok so for those of you who have either tried or bought the redoctane pad.. do u like it better than most soft pads?
I have owned a hard plastic pad for a few years.. it crapped out on me a few times and i've fixed it, not to mention its not the best hard plastic altho most arent great anyway. My bfs lil bro got the new red octane and ironically the next day my hard plastic crapped out again. I love Francis's new pad so much i decided to get the same one for myself. i pleased with it.. plus now its less likely to crap out on me now that i lost 30lbs. ;D
well l like it better than any pad ive ever owned..
wut about you guys? like or not

Request for Clarification: Which RedOctane pad? They make a number of them.

oops.. the new one, ignition. Its like a regular soft pad only theres hard foam in the middle to provide cusion for the switches that are also reinforced. It's made to last longer as most soft pads dont.

The ignition is hardly new, but anyway. I do like the firm pad style of the ignition, but I'd like the insert ot be both firmer and a little thicker, to stretch the surface of the pad more. Levelsix.com has a ignition style pad with a good insert, but the pad surface is a little more brittle and thus more prone to cracking.

I wish the foam was a bit harder and didn't have that puzzle piece kind of thing which I can just see coming apart some day, although then it'd be very hard to package. Oh well.

The levelsix hard foam is very nice, three piece instead of 6 piece (Hasn't come apart in two years), stiffer and thicker than the ignition foam. Best combo is that insert with the ignition pad.

i will agree w/ the puzzle thing.. some times its comes a bit loose and so the pad surface and frame is not as balanced all around.
I thought the ignition came out a few some odd months ago. Oh well i didnt keep up with new pads since i would keep fixing my old one. but finding out which wires were cooked or slightly severed got annoying not too mention mine was never really "acurate" with timing..

My RedOctane Ignition soft pad worked perfectly about 9 months (8-10 hours play/week). Then I noticed after about an hour of play the arrows would start sticking. After I let it 'rest' for a few days it was fine again, then same thing. It's like it was getting flattened out and then had to have time to re-expand.

Personally I have given up on soft pads, I went and spent quite a bit of cash on a Cobalt Flux metal pad. It works great and feels alot like arcade style.
I'm the president and founder of Club DDR at my school (3rd year club) and we bought a red octane metal pad. after playing on it for a year, only playing about 22minutes once a week, the pad is shot.
The only thing I dont like about the cobalt flux pad is occasionally you have to clean it and bend the metal so it "clicks" like the arcade, and so you get better response. Other than that its worth the price. Don't get the red octane one. Either get the ignition or cobalt flux IMHO.

This is kind of OT, but I keep two soft pads for that reason . . . no one in my house really plays with me any more, so I can switch between the two pads to give them "rest" so they last a little longer than if I only had one. About the Ignition Pad, I'm planning on buying one in the next week and was wondering if you have to wear shoes or be barefoot when doing DDR?

For the ignition pads, It depends on how fast you want to wear it out. Although they do last a long time, as far as "soft" pads are concerned, it still gets worn out like most pads, even metal pads. I have played with socks and enjoy the feeling of the ignition pad vs. regular soft pads. Although I only play on metal/arcade pads anymore, if you do not want to spend 200-350 bucks on a metal pad, the ignition pad is the longest-lasting soft pad IMHO.

I just bought mine a week ago Friday and I love it. I'm getting better scores on the workout function. It's very comfortable & I also work out much longer than I did when using the regular dance pad. ;D

I have been using the Red Octane Ignition going on 3 months. The first couple of weeks were great (5-8 hours/week on average). But ever since, I always seem to be having problems with at least one arrow responding. I too, have found that after 30 minutes or so, the problems seem to start. Then, after getting angry and vowing to not dance anymore, I try again a few days later and after 30 minutes or so, it's another arrow not responding. I started DDR at home and have never danced at the arcade... but can someone tell me: do you have these same problems with metal pads? If I were to invest the $300-$350, would my problems be eliminated? I love the dancing, but the pad frustration is about to ruin it for me!

I like my Red Octane ignition pad. It has its troubles, like ghost pressing the left arrow sometimes- but I think that's due to the fact that the mat slips over the foam some and the cords inside get a bit jumbled.
At least it isn't like the first Red Ocatane Ignition pad that I bought....that had a PEN sewn into the cords and top layer of the pad...yeah, a PEN. That sucked.
Someday I want two pads so I can do doubles and versus. :-(
