Hey! i have DDR extreme. I got it for Christmas with a "refurbished" playstation 2 and a new memory card. I had been playing for a few days. the next day I started the ps2 as usual but ddr extreme didn't load. a red box came up and said File data corrupted proceed without loading? so I clicked on yes anfter it wouldnt accept the answer no. ALL of my data was erased on all of the unlocked songs and dancers. But my weight loss info was still intact. My data has been erased/corrupt about 3x since Christmas and its really starting to annoy me at starting all over again. Has this happened to any1 b4 and what do you think is causing this problem? is it the used ps2? what do you suggest and should I stop trying to get myscores back on all of the beginner and light mode songs again or should I just dance on standard mode seeing that my progress is getting erased neways and I know that i already beat those modes? thanx in advance and sry for all of the shorthand (broken arm..typing w/left hand only )

If you got your refurb from Gamestop or EBgames, take it back to them and see if they'll give you a replacement one. I believe they've got a brief warranty period.

Wow fast reply! ;D I would have tried but I called them first and they said that they would only accept the ps2 if the box hadn't been opened (they put a new seal on it)
but i've been using it for 3 weeks already...

This has happened to me before, and does tend to happen with some of the older Playstation 2's. Its not the PS2 per-say, and its not the game. Its just a glitch with the memory card that comes up rarely. I think I get one a year, since I got the PS2, if I'm unlucky. You can't totally stop memory card whip out, but you can help prevent it. Its pretty easy, clear out old saves every few months or so. Don't turn off the game while its loading or saving. If data is corrupted delete it as soon as possible so that it doesn't spread to other saves. Keep your PS2 on stanby mode (with the red light) instead of turing it off completely with the back switch, standby mode uses very little power and shouldn't cause any problems. When you're ready to quit or switch games, go back to the main menu and wait half a minute so you can be sure it saves correctly. If you're really paraniod keep a back up memory card. Also, use Sony memory cards, others have been known to cause some problems. It sounds like a lot, but if you get in the habit of keeping care of your PS2 and memory cards, you can extend the life of your machine and prevent memory card corruption. PS2 is still a machine, the better you take care of it, the better it works.

Mkae sure they know you're talking about the system, not the game. They should take back the system (it wasn't new, and they don't put "new" stickers on systems they sell as refurb).

From Joefro889: I want to tell you about my experiences in DDR Extreme and Memory cards for my PS2. Well, I had AA*’s and a ton of songs and had all of the players. Later, when I turned on my PS2 and played DDR Extreme, it said that the data is corrupted. I said no, but it didn’t do anything . When I said yes and started the game, I had no mission mode, only 2 starter players, and no extra songs that said new under it. There was nothing I could do about it. After the final stage, it didn’t save anymore ! Well, I found out a way that you can make it save without getting a new memory card . First, you go to Browser without the disk in. Then, you see an icon that looks like a green arrow. It will be DDR Extreme. Click on it and press delete. Now, put the disk in. It should ask you 2 questions. Say yes to each question. Now, it will save, but you will still have start all over . Sometimes on Browser, it will show an icon that says corrupted data. You can delete that if it is there. The way that the memory card won’t get corrupted is to when you turn off your PS2, take out the memory card. If this doesn’t work, I would get a new memory card.

i feel your pain. however im lucky cuz this happened to me on my ddr max 2 and thats my least favorite one anyways The reason it didnt erase ur workout mode is cuz thats semi-seperate data. They link together when needed like when u play in game mode and it records the calories burned.. however if the "game data" is corrupt sometimes the "workout data" isnt effected. Becuz thats exaclty wut happened to me. I dont think its the game.. it COULD however be your memory card. I noticed this happens to my friends who play max, max 2, and extreme.. all in one workout session meaning they keep switching disks. Even tho they reset the ps2.. it still happens. maybe a good thing to do is either copy your extreme data on another memory card for backup or put extreme data on a memory card different from max and max 2 becuz i think it gets corrupt becuz the data is similar. -Allie

i got a brand new Slim PS2, and i havnt had a problem with MAX2 yet, but i have had other game saves corrupted. be aware that if you use Gameshark or Action Replay to unlock the songs/modes/players/messages......you have a very good chance of data corruption.

This just happened to me today with extreme. I am so bummed!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder if it is because my memory card MagicGate brand. The only reason I got it was because it was yellow and easy to tell my memory card from my husband. I always play endless mode for working out. Now I have to unlock it. I don't remember how many games I have to play to unlock it.
