Hey everyone. So I just bought DDR Extreme and a PS2 pad (a cheap one mind you) to make sure I liked the game. I definately love it, but I was just wondering how fast most people progress level-wise. I've only been playing two days, but I can definately A* and AA* a lot of the light levels. Should I be working harder and how long did it take some of you experts to feel comfortable on standard and heavy?

It took me about 2 weeks to get an A playing constantly, a AA after about a month and it took me 5 months to get a AAA.

DDR is weird in that its different for everyone as far as skill progression goes.
Two weeks should be more than anyone playing on a dedicated schedule will need to be complete with Light and start moving on to Standard. If it seems too difficult at first, stick with it anyways!!! The more you play, the more the song and step patterns are nailed into your head. Many times you'll try something, fail miserably, and quit in anger, but the next day you'll go back and it will shock you how easily you beat it. Its weird, but thats how it works, so push yourself.

It all depends. I was mastering Standard mode about 3 months or so after I started playing. I trieds standard probably about 1-1.5 months after I began. I don't really remember when I murged into Heavy, but it happens eventually.

That is so true and has happened to me on more than one occasion. The pad you use makes quite a bit of difference as well. I had a really crappy pad when I started out and was really bumming myself out because I thought I wasn't progressing like I should. I went out and got a better pad and did much better. Now to the original question.... I started out on light and it took me about 3 days to start getting A's and AA's. (I was playing A LOT!!) The switch to standard took me quite some time though.. But I just stuck to it and gradually it became easier and easier as time went by.

It is taking me MUCH longer than all these people who posted! It took me roughly 500 - 600 songs before I could easily do most Light songs, and now at 700 songs there are only a couple that I've AA'd, and I've never AAA'd. That's what I get for being very uncoordianted, and very VERY out of shape! I don't mind, though. "Workout steps" are a really great feature for people like me who want more step patterns to do but aren't going to be in good enough shape to do the 1/2 (or 1/4 or 1/8th or whatever they are called) steps for a while!

That's what I get for being very uncoordianted, and very VERY out of shape! I'm about where you are now. I started playing last year with Max but was never any good. Once i bought Ultramix2 and started playing more than once every two or three weeks, i started progressing much faster. I've been playing since early Jan on a regular schedule, and i'm def. not in standard yet. I've also never AAA'ed, altho i came close a few times this week. But *my* personal goals are not to beat DDR in the shortest time possible or go to the arcade and whip everyone else's butt (altho i know there are plenty of you on here who do, and i applaud you for it.) My reasons for using DDR are more for personal benefit, and mental health/healing. For those of you who are feeling discouraged because you're not progressing as fast as other people on here, look at your motivations for playing. Everyone has different reasons, and they are all good ones as far as i can see! UJKitten

Hmm, well I started playing...like in the summer of 2004. And I think I caught on pretty fast. I was playing Standard Mode in just a month because I remember I did it at Six Flags last year. And around Oct.-Nov. I was starting Heavy Mode and by x-mas I finally got my DDR Extreme and metal mat. ^_^ But you know, the reason I think I did so good was because ever since I saw a pro freestyle in the arcade, I've been motivated to do my best ever since. It's all about the motivation and time you put into it.

Im not the best player, but my friend was impressed in my improvement through the first week I bought DDR. After learning how to play, I pretty much had the light mode "mastered" (mastered, making A' and AA's) in less than a week. And within two weeks I had Era on Standard (on konamix) AA'ed. Then about a month later I was moving on to Heavy and getting A's and AA's on most of the easy to medium songs. Before I stopped playing due to school and getting back into EverCrack, I mean EverQuest, I was able to A Sakura, AA "A" and AA a multitude of songs on Extreme (at the arcade), which is not bad for a guy of my size (I am 6'3'' 280 lbs). Soon I will get some pics posted, cuz I know I despise the way I look.
